Pescadero High School lost hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise after a burglar broke into two vending machines sometime overnight on May 7. The burglar cut through metal cages to get at two soda machines, stealing cash and dozens of soft drinks from the machines. School officials believe the same burglar also tried to siphon gas from one of the school vans parked overnight in the campus lot. San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies found a black rubber hose underneath the school van and a smaller green hose inserted in the gas tank. Sheriff’s deputies say they have no suspects.

Police saw a 17-year-old riding a bike while holding an open container of alcohol. The 17-year-old and his two teenage friends ran from police, but were caught and cited.

A father found his juvenile daughter drunk in the morning after a night of drinking. The father gave police the name of an 18-year-old whom he believes gave his daughter the alcohol.

A cab driver called police after a customer tried to pay with a bad credit card. The customer made arrangements with the cab company to pay the fare.

1:22 a.m., May 14, Highway 92
A 69-year-old driver was arrested for drunken driving after speeding forward from a red light toward the center divider, and driving his car up on the highway median. The driver, a resident of Half Moon Bay, failed sobriety tests and was taken to jail.
11:15 p.m., May 18, Kelly Avenue
Police received reports of a car hitting numerous curbs while navigating a downtown parking lot. Officers stopped the driver and determined he was drunk. He was arrested and taken to the hospital.
Fight
7:43 p.m., May 17, Highway 1
Several men at Longs Drugs were involved in a large gang fight. One of the men threw a bottle toward other men, causing damage to a cash register inside the store. Several suspects from the crime fled from police. Officers attempted to interview a group of purported victims from the attack at a nearby restaurant, but they also immediately fled police. One 26-year-old suspect from the fight was later cited near the Pilarcitos Creek bridge for giving police officers a fake ID card.

A juvenile cyclist came into the police station to report that a car hit him while he was riding his bike. The young man wasn’t thrown off his bicycle, but his back rim was slightly bent from the collision. The driver left the scene without stopping.

A homeowner leaving for work noticed his garage door open, with the opener light on, indicating someone had just opened his garage. The man suspected that criminals may have been driving down the street checking garage door opener codes.

Police investigated allegations that a man was removing newspapers from downtown news racks because he was angry about an article printed in them. The man denied taking any newspapers, saying he only removed them from his own business and that he already paid for those.

A suspicious vehicle was seen parked near Hatch Elementary School. Police searched the area and located a similar vehicle but not the one that was reported.

A 15-year-old Half Moon Bay High School student was arrested for stealing an iPod.

A young man who told police that someone stole his backpack later found it with all of the contents still inside.
1:30 p.m., May 17, Poplar Beach
A man left his bicycle unlocked at the beach bluffs at Poplar Beach and from a distance, he spotted a young cyclist ride up and examine his bike. The young man waved a friend over, who hopped on the bike and rode away. The victim began looking for the bike thieves around town, and he found them near downtown Half Moon Bay. The man demanded they give his bicycle back, and the two teens complied.

An iPhone was stolen while the owner was at the beach.

A property owner told police that over several months he had seen two juveniles scratch his vehicles with sticks.

6:20 p.m., May 7, Franklin Point Beach
Someone broke into a locked car and stole several items. The cost of the car damage and theft was estimated to be $2,400.
1:15 p.m., May 6, Bean Hollow Road
A burglar entered a locked vehicle and stole a purse with several credit cards and $2,000 in cash. One of the credit cards was soon used to make purchases at a Macy’s store. The locked vehicle was accessed because the owner left a window crack open an inch, allowing the burglar to push the window down to get in the car. The burglar’s fingerprints were lifted from the window.

Police arrested a pickup truck driver after finding a small bag of methamphetamine during a search of his vehicle.

1:47 a.m., May 10, Capistrano Road
Sheriff’s deputies watched two men who appeared drunk who were talking outside a bar around closing time. When one of the men walked over to his vehicle and attempted to drive away, the deputies drove behind him and performed a traffic stop. The 27-year-old from San Mateo was arrested and
