| Pescadero student participates in state fair By Greg Thomas [ greg@hmreview.com ] Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 12:56 PM PDT Pescadero Middle School student Carina Cain was driving home with her family from the California State Science Fair in Los Angeles Wednesday. The 11-year-old sixth-grader didn’t win any awards for her plant-growing experiment, but, she’s bringing home a newfound confidence in her abilities and intentions to compete again next year. “Definitely I’d really like to try again … but I might want to try something new,” she said. At the opening ceremony for the fair, held at the California Science Center on Monday, Cain listened to the speech of a woman who designs robotic equipment to assist people coping with strokes and autism. Cain said the woman’s words inspired in her a desire to “help people” in whichever profession she pursues. “It was pretty cool that she was helping people with disabilities an still doing what she loves to do … I definitely want to help people,” Cain said, adding that she might want to find out more about robotics. |
