Ritz patron attacks father, grabs groin

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 - 11:45:10 am PDT

A restaurant patron at the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, reportedly grabbed a man in the groin Saturday night because he thought the man’s children were making too much noise. The alleged attacker and his family were reportedly seated at the restaurant right next to the victim, his wife and their 1-year-old twin children. Police say the man accused of the attack complained repeatedly about the other family’s children and told the family they should leave. The accused man later followed the father as he took his 1-year-old son to the bathroom, where he repeatedly challenged him to a fight. Carrying his infant son, the father refused. That’s when the attacker is alleged to have reached down and grabbed the father in his crotch. Police arrived and took statements, but made no arrests. The victim complained of pain, but said he wasn’t injured. He declined to place the attacker under citizen’s arrest, but reportedly is considering prosecuting the crime. Other restaurant guests said the victim’s children weren’t causing a disturbance, according to police.
