Cunha's Grocery listed for sale

Less than two years after it was purchased by restaurateur and businessman Franco Carrubba, Cunha’s Country Grocery appears to be for sale again. Tuesday, the business was listed for sale.

Carrubba purchased the iconic Main Street business in June of 2007. He could not be reached for comment Tuesday and the listing agent, Rick Harding of Coldwell Banker, did not immediately return phone calls.

For many on the coast, Cunha’s will forever be associated with Bev Cunha Ashcraft. Her family ran the store for decades. When it burned down in a spectacular fire in 2003, residents of Half Moon Bay rallied around Ashcraft, supporting her and her loyal employees through a quick rebuild.

Carrubba quickly became a familiar face around town. In addition to Cunha’s, he owns the nearby San Benito House and a stake in Shoreline Station.
