Caretaker accused of being drunk, abusing elderly woman

San Mateo County deputies were called to handle a drunken woman who was causing a scene at a Princeton bar last week, reportedly with an elderly woman in her care. The officers discovered the drunken caretaker, 47-year-old Velma Ousley of San Leandro, was already being sought for suspected elderly abuse. One week earlier, multiple witnesses told deputies they saw Ousley hitting the elderly woman in her car and threatening her with death if she told anyone. At the Princeton bar, bystanders were again concerned about the well-being of the elderly woman, particularly because her caretaker was too drunk to care for herself. Deputies later discovered that Ousley was also allegedly writing checks from the elderly woman’s account. She was arrested and a family member came to pick up the victim.
