Man jumps from balcony to evade police

Responding to a noise complaint, Half Moon Bay police officers arrived at a Willow Avenue apartment on Saturday evening and saw a young man jump from a second story balcony and sprint off. Inside the apartment, police say they smelled marijuana smoke and saw open beers on a coffee table. Two of the people inside reportedly were drinking beer in the apartment and were on probation, one of whom was an underage juvenile. The case was forwarded to the district attorney and the older man could face charges for giving beer to the minor.

An El Granada Elementary student was approached by a stranger while walking to school. The unknown man attempted to lure the student into his car, but the child ran away and reported the incident. Police later could not find the suspect or his car.

1:05 p.m., April 16, Kelly Avenue

An 86-year-old driver hit a planter box after driving up onto the sidewalk. The elderly man was cited for driving with a suspended license.

3:42 p.m., April 18, Arnold Way

A 47-year-old man was cited for driving without a license and getting into an accident with another car. The collision caused no injuries.

A 25-year-old man was arrested after pestering customers for money at the More for Less gas station. The man was determined to be too drunk to care for himself.

11:22 p.m., April 15, Bordeaux Lane

A 78-year-old woman died after experiencing medical problems. The woman was pronounced dead after unsuccessful attempt to resuscitate her by firefighters and police officers.

April 8, Spyglass Court

A wayward golf ball went sailing off course, breaking a window at a nearby home. The homeowner wanted a police report taken of the incident.

3 p.m., April 17, Filbert Street

A homeowner was told to get rid of a rooster on his property. City ordinances prohibit residents from owned noisy roosters.

3:25 p.m., April 14, Miramontes Avenue

Unknown vandals spray-painted gang symbols on several walls at Hatch Elementary.

2:47 p.m., April 20, Alsace Lorraine

A caller told police a 40-year-old man had fallen and might be injured. When officers arrived they discovered the man was just sleeping on the grass. Police also learned the man had an active misdemeanor warrant. The man was let go on the promise he would appear in court.

A car owner said his vehicle was stolen by an acquaintance. The car owner loaned his vehicle to an acquaintance with the understanding that it would be returned to him that evening. The other man never returned the car, instead asking if he could borrow it until the following afternoon. The next day, the car owner couldn’t find his car or the other man.

6:30 a.m., April 16, Highway 92

Someone damaged a car parked for repair at an auto shop. The unknown vandal smashed a windshield, punctured tires and made several scratches to the car.

4:57 p.m., April 7, Highway 1

Someone smashed a car window to steal two cell phone chargers. The owner of the car valued the chargers at $15.

12:52 p.m., April 9, McKnee Ranch Trail

Sheriff’s deputies pursued a driver on Highway 1 who was reportedly breaking into cars at McNee Ranch State Park. The chase went up the coast, through Pacifica, and into San Francisco, where the police lost track of the suspect.

4:45 p.m., April 7, San Pedro Mountain Road

A census worker was attacked by three dogs while she was walking up a driveway to speak with the homeowners. Three German short-hair pointers chased after the census workers, two of which bit her, causing minor injuries to her elbow. The woman received medical treatment later and reported the incident.

9:08 p.m., April 15, North Street

Two men were observed arguing in public. When Sheriff’s deputies stopped the men and asked them about the problem, one of them became belligerent, uncooperative and was obviously very drunk. Deputies arrested the man for public intoxication.

A woman reported receiving text messages with vague threats from her ex-boyfriend. The woman was told how to get a restraining order.

7:06 p.m., April 12, Capistrano Road

A drunken man demanded more booze at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company after bartenders at the restaurant told him that he couldn’t have any more. Sheriff’s deputies were called for help after the man created a disturbance. The 33-year-old from Richmond stumbled outside with the help of the deputies and argued with them over his intoxication. He was arrested for public drunkenness.

7:57 p.m., April 11, Johnson Pier

A 17-year-old girl tried to start a fight a 20-year-old woman who was working at a Pillar Point Harbor business. The two girls were involved in a dispute over a boyfriend. The business owner called the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived and tried to mediate the conflict. Both women wanted to prosecute the other for the altercation.

Drugs

10:50 p.m., April 9, Capistrano Road

Two men were arrested for possessing drugs on the back patio of the Old Princeton Landing bar. A 23-year-old man was found with six grams of methamphetamine and $973 in cash. A second 40-year-old from Moss Beach had a small amount of marijuana and a glass pipe. Deputies saw the older man throw an object out of sight when they approached, which they later discovered was a small baggie containing more meth. Both men were taken to county jail.

9:03 a.m., April 13, Ritiro Street

A car parked in front of a home was scratched on the doors, hood and trunk by an unknown person. The total damage was estimated to be more than $400.
