Applications are being accepted for the Half Moon Bay-based 2009 Blue Blanket Improv Performing Arts Scholarship Program.

With a mission to encourage performance arts on the Coastside, BBI is providing a scholarship for college-bound high school students. Candidates must be current high school students from Montara to Pescadero and have completed the scholarship application.

The program consists of two parts. One is a six- to eight-month internship with the troupe, following auditions, in which the student is expected to gain real-world performance experience in professional-level comedy improvisational theater skills like public speaking, fast and creative thinking, active listening, team- and idea-building, storytelling, basic acting and verbal projection.

Interns participate in Monday evening rehearsal/workshops, and provide technical/creative support for BBI shows.

The commitment is three months, after which the student may be asked to join the troupe.

At the internship, BBI will award a $500 cash scholarship toward college expenses. Troupe members make the selection based on commitment and creative growth.
