Council members cited Dolder's extensive leadership in government finances and crisis management in their decision to select him. Mayor John Muller said those skills will help the city as it faces a gauntlet of challenges in the coming months, particularly the $18 million Beachwood debt.
“The council has selected a top applicant,” Muller said. “Dolder is a crisis-management focused individual and he's a real workhorse.”

Dolder will start working for the city on Jan. 14, one day before outgoing City Manager Marcia Raines is scheduled to leave. According to the city leaders, Raines will do her best to bring Dolder up to speed before she departs.
“He's uniquely qualified for the situation we're in,” said City Councilwoman Marina Fraser. “He's not a neophyte. He's up for the challenge.”
No salary has been specified for Dolder yet. Council members say the pay structure for the new city manager will be determined at the next City Council meeting on Jan. 20.
