Purchasing carbon offsets helped neutralize the environmental impact of an estimated 50,000 fans at last year’s event, but this year Mavericks Surf Ventures CEO Keir Beadling says his team of coordinators can do more.
Along with setting up compost and recycling bins, “we will have our Clif Bar green team onsite educating the public about waste management, environmental responsibility, etc. And we’re currently evaluating the viability of using solar power for land-based contest operations.”

The new practices, Beadling said, are “consistent with our core values of courage, respect, authenticity and integrity, and we hope that Mavericks fans all over the world will take a similar approach and consider what they can do to minimize their own carbon footprint.”
