“We’re really hurting,” said Timothy Anthamatten, Toys For Tots coordinator for San Mateo, San Francisco and Marin counties. “And we’ve gotten more requests for toys than we usually do.”
Usually, Anthamatten said, he’s able to hand out one toy to each of about 70,000 needy children. This year, however, the need has increased to 90,000 and donors aren’t keeping up.

“I was expecting a better turnout,” she said. “And I realize times are tough for everybody, but I’d like to be able to give at least one full box of toys.”
Today is the last day to donate.
