“Jean”, as she liked to be called, was born Mabel Imogene King, on April 2, 1926, in Oklahoma, to a large family. Jean moved to California when she was 16 to stay with her older brother, Robert King. Jean’s husband Matt developed his artistic talents and opened his own leather work business, and Jean joined him in this venture. Together they produced over 300 hand-carved, hand-built saddles, as well as countless belts, purses, wallets, chaps, and many various items to meet their customers’ needs of both utility and artwork.
Jean is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as many friends. Daughter Linda Jean Simpson of Bandon, Oregon, grandchildren Jonathan and Jennifer, and great-grandchildren Lyndsay, Ty, Devon, Jessica and Tristen. Daughter Barbara Sue Mulderick, of El Granada, grandsons Clinton, Christopher, and great-grandchildren Jake and Haley. Son Matthew Paul Klein, Jr., of Half Moon Bay, and grandsons Matthew III, Nicholas, and Christian. Also, her brothers, Bateson David King, of Calif., Hershel Jackson King, of Wash., and sister Dora Beryl King, also of Wash. Jean’s brothers, Robert Earl King and James Edward King, passed in 1976 and 2007, respectively. Memorial service will be held at Church of the Highlands, 1900 Monterey Drive, San Bruno, CA, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008.
