In her ninetieth year, Nina T. Plancherel passed away at home in Half Moon Bay on Nov. 6, 2008 following a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Versailles, France on Sept. 11, 1918, she married Max Plancherel of Switzerland in 1939. Together with their daughter, they immigrated to the USA in 1948. They eventually settled in San Francisco in 1950, where Nina later owned a thriving beauty shop on Union Street. A devoted lover of classical music and opera, she also worked as a volunteer usher for the SF Opera, Symphony and Ballet for over fifty years.

Nina is survived by her daughter Mary-Rose Ruddy, her son-in-law Michael Ruddy of Half Moon Bay; her grandson Patrick Burger, her granddaughter Anne-Marie Burger (Steve Mulready); her great-grandson Jack Mulready of San Francisco; her brother Rene Torrente of Terra Linda, her brother John Legras (Elizabeth) of Grass Valley, her sister Annette Coche in France, her four step-grandchildren, her nine step-great-grandchildren, her nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends here and abroad.
There will be a Memorial Mass at Our Lady of the Pillar on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life with her family and friends at the Amesport Landing Community Room.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed in her memory to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, Sutter Hospice or to any children’s organization.
