A small structure fire that burned part of a house on Highway 92 was extinguished within minutes of its report at approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Half Moon Bay Police Department officers were the first on the scene at 261 San Mateo Road, followed by two Coastside Fire Protection District engines and another from the Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department.

CalFire Battalion Chief David Cosgrave said an occupant of the house had been doing maintenance work earlier in the day with some sort of burning tool.

"There's a high suspicion of that (having something to do with the incident)," Cosgrave said.

At the time, officials on the scene were unsure as to the cause of the fire but reported no injuries and minimal damage to the house.
