The New York-based Avon Foundation and Mountain View’s Silicon Valley Community Foundation combined to provide $115,000 to assure the continuance of the agency’s Child Abuse Treatment Program for kids up to the age of 17. CHAT has already been granted $207,000 from the California Office of Emergency Services.
The CHAT Program aims to provide free, culturally sensitive therapy, information and referral to child victims of abuse and domestic violence. The bilingual program is intended to help fill the gaps in existing San Mateo County counseling services for children impacted by domestic violence.

Common client issues include physical and sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, exposure to domestic violence and other traumas. Referrals for the CHAT Program sometimes originate from family court.
“We’re grateful to both of these esteemed foundations for bolstering our capacity to improve the lives of child victims of abuse and domestic violence,” said Family Service President Laurie Wishard.
