High school student found with stolen laptop

LoJack security software loaded onto a recently purchased laptop indicated that a Half Moon Bay High School student may have bought a stolen computer. Half Moon Bay Police were alerted Thursday afternoon that a laptop that was reported stolen was being used at the high school. However, the student’s father had purchased the laptop on eBay recently for $455. The laptop was confiscated for the investigation.

2:59 a.m., Oct. 26, Highway 1

Motorists reported a drunken driver on Highway 1 who was weaving in and out of traffic. When Sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the car, the driver veered into the oncoming traffic lane, nearly hitting a second patrol car head-on. When the car was finally pulled over, the driver refused to open his car door and tried to put the car in gear to get away. A deputy smashed the side window to turn off the vehicle and forcibly removed the driver. When the 65-year-old driver was pulled out, he attacked one of the deputies, kicking him several times. The Pacifica man was taken to a local hospital because of his extreme intoxication.

A victim reported a case of domestic battery after his ex-girlfriend threw coffee on him. He declined to seek prosecution.

A teenage boy punched a friend in the nose.

Drugs

1:10 a.m., Oct. 31, Spruce Street

Officers found a glass pipe used to smoke drugs on a 25-year-old driver. The driver also had a license plate violation and no insurance or driver’s license.

1:13 a.m., Nov. 3, Highway 1

A 22-year-old driver pulled over for speeding was found with marijuana and no proof of insurance.

11:10 p.m., Nov. 3, Kelly Avenue

A driver pulled over for a defective windshield was found with marijuana. The 37-year-old driver also had a suspended license and no insurance.

DUI

1:52 a.m., Nov. 1, Highway 1

A 45-year-old driver was weaving across the highway lanes. After being stopped by officers, the driver seemed intoxicated and failed the sobriety tests.

Harrassment

11:10 a.m., Oct. 28, Arnold Way

A woman reported an annoying phone call from a unknown person who she believes is her ex-boyfriend. The caller made lewd sexual comments to her, and she told him never to call her again.

Injured animal

12 p.m., Nov. 1, Frenchmans Creek Road

A deer, hit by a vehicle, had to be euthanized by officers.

Hit-and-run

6:45 p.m., Oct. 30, Highway 1

A driver hit a parked car and drove off. However, one witness said the driver who caused the crash provided the victim with his license plate number, then drove away. Officers later found the driver and he admitted to causing the accident.

Robbery

Nov. 2, Kelly Avenue

An assailant struck a man in the face after trying to steal the man’s bicycle.

Suspicious circumstance

11 a.m., Oct. 29, Arnold Way

Someone tried to get into a home by removing a screen door and opening the front door. The suspects left feces on the sidewalk and covered it with a newspaper.

Theft

7 a.m., Oct. 28, Spinnaker Lane

Campaign signs were stolen from a resident’s front yard as well as signs she placed on Highway 1.

5:27 p.m., Oct. 29, Grove Street

A stolen vehicle was located in a ditch in unincorporated San Mateo County. The auto thief stole a stereo out of the car.

Nov. 1, Correas Street

A bicycle left unlocked was stolen from in front of the Half Moon Bay Library.

Montara

Burglary

12:25 p.m., Oct. 28, Montara State Beach

Somebody smashed the passenger window of a locked vehicle and stole a purse and a laptop computer.

Unincorporated San Mateo County

Burglary

11:20 a.m., Oct. 24, Gray Whale Cove

A rental car was broken into and two purses were stolen from inside. The purses contained identification, cash, jewelry and credit cards, which were later used at a local market.

Warrant

8 a.m., Nov. 1

Deputies found a man dressed like a jail inmate, sleeping on the side of the road. The 20-year-old man, told deputies that he had come from a Halloween costume party where he was working as a D.J. and was too tired to drive all the way home to San Jose. But deputies discovered a $10,000 warrant out for his arrest and he was taken into custody.
