More soccer officials available

Chris Miller, head of the area soccer officials’ association, North American Sports Management, was concerned with his numbers prior to the season.

The association has 52 officials to work the various high school soccer matches. As a result, the association will be able to assign three officials for most matches.

The problem this year is that no one in the Central Coast Section is playing soccer in the fall anymore.

The new West Bay Athletic League took teams from other leagues that used to play soccer in the fall.

“We don’t do any AYSO or CYSA matches,” Miller said.

Helping is the West Catholic Athletic League, which plays about 40 percent of its league matches on Saturdays.

Miller is always willing to take new officials. A preseason meeting/clinic takes place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6 at Los Lomitas Elementary School in Atherton.

Jacquez recognized

Tess Jacquez, a sophomore for the Beloit College volleyball team and a 2007 graduate of Pescadero High School, was named the Midwest Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 19.

Jacquez, an outside hitter, helped the Buccaneers win three matches, extending the Buccaneers’ winning streak to six. In the three matches, she recorded 23 kills, 24 digs, 10 aces and four block assists.

Water polo losses

Half Moon Bay High School’s water polo teams fell to Burlingame in Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division action last week.

The boys lost, 17-2. James Anderson and Lucas Flosi scored.

The girls lost, 16-7. Rachel Graham scored three goals, with Erin Dahl scoring twice, and Jenni Olivero and Monica Tolar contributing goals.

The junior varsity boys earned a 7-6 win.

The season ends today.
