Driver, drinking in car, nearly crashes into bus

On Oct. 16, a drunken driver was reportedly swerving all over Highway 1 while traveling northbound during the late evening. An anonymous caller said the driver nearly collided head-on with an oncoming bus. San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle in the parking lot at Pillar Point Harbor. The 39-year-old driver was found to be drunk. After a brief search of the car, deputies found a partially consumed bottle of rum and an open beer.

7:21 a.m., Oct. 17, Sonora Avenue

A resident reported vandalism: Someone squirt ketchup all over her car.

6:51 p.m., Oct. 17, Ferdinand Avenue

Somebody removed a piece of the driver’s door handle from a vehicle, preventing the driver from getting inside the car.

9:35 a.m., Oct. 21, Lewis Foster Drive

A drunken 14-year-old was arrested while in possession of a partially full bottle of booze.

1:58 a.m., Oct. 25, Kelly Avenue

A bicyclist was wobbling down the street, maneuvering in a zig-zag pattern. Officers stopped the 22-year-old biker and found he was intoxicated. The man was also cited for violating probation and not having proper lighting on his bike.

 

Assault

7:50 a.m., Oct. 27, Pilarcitos Avenue

A juvenile reported being attacked by two young men, who jumped on his back and knocked him to the ground.

Battery

Sept. 27, Kelly Avenue

Officers took a report of a one-month-old battery. A woman said her ex-boyfriend hit her. The whereabouts of the ex-boyfriend are unknown.

7:20 p.m., Oct. 27, Kelly Avenue

A female victim accused a 65-year-old woman of hitting her. The victim already had a restraining order against the 65-year-old, who was placed under citizen’s arrest and taken to jail.

Burglary

6:30 a.m., Oct. 22, St. Joseph Avenue

An unknown burglar  pried open the convertible top of a jeep. The jeep owner was not available to inventory the missing items.

1:19 p.m., Oct. 24, Highway 1

The passenger side window of a vehicle was broken. However, nothing inside was taken.

Drugs

1:29 a.m., Oct. 23, Highway 1

A 42-year-old man was found to be under the influence of narcotics at Strawflower Village. Officers arrested the man and discovered narcotics in his possession.

12:32 a.m., Oct. 26, Highway 92

A 19-year-old was found by officers to be on drugs. Officers found a glass pipe and a bag of crystals, which the suspect admitted were methamphetamines. 

False ID

12:16 a.m., Oct. 21, Pilarcitos Avenue

Three adults in a parked vehicle were stopped by a police officer. One 24-year-old passenger gave the officer a fake name, but the officer recognized the man and didn’t believe him. The man was arrested for an outstanding warrant. While in custody, police also found a controlled substance on him. 

 

Missing person

10 p.m., Oct. 22

A man from Florida, who traveled to Half Moon Bay to visit relatives, was reported missing. The man later called family members and was located.

Restraining order

10:47 a.m., Oct. 25, Kelly Avenue

Someone violated a restraining order by confronting the woman he was prohibited from seeing.

Theft

12 p.m., Oct. 21, Highway 92

Somebody stole recyclable items from an unlocked storage container.

Oct. 25, Metzgar Street

Someone stole a passport from an envelope.

2:55 p.m., Oct. 27, Highway 1

A store manager placed a suspected shoplifter under citizen’s arrest after he saw the 27-year-old suspect steal two cases of beer.

Vandalism

8:55 a.m., Oct. 22, Kelly Avenue

Several potted plants and a statue were damaged as a result of an ongoing dispute between a landlord and a tenant. The landlord wanted to have the incident documented, but did not seek prosecution.

12:01 a.m., Oct. 16, Highway 1

A thief used an unknown tool to access a victim’s car, stealing a laptop computer and a day planner.

Theft

4 p.m., Oct. 18, Montara State Beach parking lot

A car was reported stolen from a state beach parking lot, after the victim left it to walk along the shore. When he returned the vehicle was gone.

12:26 a.m., Oct. 18, Capistrano Road

Sheriff’s deputies were dispersing a group of people outside a bar when one of them pushed his way past the officers, trying to get back inside the bar. The 19-year-old man was found to be too intoxicated to care for himself and could not follow simple commands.

1:30 p.m., Oct. 15, La Honda Road

Somebody pried the window off a business and removed $300 in cash from an unsecured register.
