Nominations are now being welcomed for the Women’s Hall of Fame and Young Women of Excellence awards.
The Commission on the Status of Women of San Mateo County, established by the board of supervisors in 1982 and serving as an advisory to the board, provides leadership in developing policies, programs and legislation that addresses the needs of women, girls and families in the county.

A permanent Women’s Hall of Fame was established by the commission and the board in 1984 to recognize outstanding women, who live and work in San Mateo County, for their achievements and contributions to the overall well-being of the county. It is open to women age 18 and over, regardless of race, color, national origin, sexual orientation or political affiliation.
In 1993 the Young Women of Excellence Award was added to the Hall of Fame to provide an avenue of visibility for young women.
Past Hall of Fame honorees from the Coastside include physician Josefina “Joy” Enriquez (2001), South Coast activist Carol Young-Holt (2003), and Maureen Perron (2008), who is active with various Coastside humanitarian groups.
Nominations are now being accepted for the Women’s Hall of Fame, which seeks women age 19 and above, and the Young Women of Excellence, which focuses on mature girls who are high school juniors and seniors or equivalent in age.
The awards will be presented at the 25th annual Women’s Hall of Fame Awards Banquet on Friday, March 20, 2009, at the South San Francisco Conference Center.
