Teenagers burglarize high school, steal fire extinguishers

Half Moon Bay Police responded to a burglar alarm at the high school about 10 p.m. on Saturday. Officers discovered someone had entered school buildings and sprayed fire extinguishers all over the premises. Several fire extinguishers had also been stolen. Officers located two teenagers with the fire extinguishers. A 17-year-old was arrested for possessing tobacco and stolen property and released to his parents. His 18-year-old counterpart was arrested on charges of burglary, and possession of stolen property and alcohol. The following day a third teenager confessed that he and four friends had entered the school and stolen the fire extinguishers.

Half Moon Bay Burglary

7:50 p.m., Oct 7, Washington Boulevard

A resident found her garage door open and discovered three checkbooks were missing from a box in the garage.

6 a.m., Oct 1, Poplar Street

Somebody entered a home through an unlocked door and stole a bicycle, a frozen pizza and a box of pizza bites.

Disturbance

2 a.m., Oct 10, Highway 1

An unknown caller was making obscene phone calls. The victim was advised to log the calls and contact the phone company.

Dog attack

5:30 p.m., Oct 6, Wavecrest Road

A neighborhood man claimed he and his dog were both attacked by a pair of pit bull dogs two days earlier at the dog park. The owner of the pit bulls was contacted and said her dogs play rough, but that she didn’t believe her dogs attacked the man or his dog. The woman was advised of her responsibilities for her dogs.

DUI

12:48 a.m., Oct 7, Highway 1

A driver was reportedly zooming down the highway, swerving into the center divide. The 26-year-old was pulled over and found to be intoxicated after failing sobriety tests.

Oct 13, 7:35 p.m., Filbert Street

An intoxicated driver hit a parked vehicle. The 30-year-old driver from Moss Beach was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and without a license.

Fire

12:02 p.m., Oct 13, Highway 1

A fire was started in a Dumpster at Strawflower Village. An officer moved the Dumpster away from the building and firefighters extinguished the fire.

Forgery

9:21 a.m., Aug 25, Stone Pine Road

A Half Moon Bay business mailed a payroll check to an employee out of state, but somebody stole the check and cashed it, forging the employee’s signature.

Fraud

Sept 1, Stone Pine Road

Somebody created fake checks using a Half Moon Bay business account number. The checks were drawn from businesses in New Mexico. The victim is unsure how the checking account number could have gotten into the hands of a criminal.

ID theft

A man received e-mails regarding credit cards that he never applied for.

11:35 a.m., Oct 10, Kelly Avenue

Personal health records were stolen when somebody took paperwork from the vehicle of a doctor’s office employee.

Lost dog

5:45 p.m., Oct 10, Highway 1

A woman left her dog in a parked car with the window open, and when she returned, the dog was gone. Fifteen minutes later, she received a call from a local veterinarian saying that her dog was located.

Lost property

12 a.m., Oct 4

An Italian traveler asked police for help, saying he had lost his credit card while in Las Vegas and needed some help reporting it to his bank.

Shoplifting

11:30 a.m., Oct 8, Highway 1

Two teenage boys were arrested for shoplifting soft drinks from Longs Drugs. One of two arrested teens admitted to shoplifting alcohol from the same store the previous Friday. One of the two 15-year-olds was released to his parents, the other was taken to juvenile hall for probation violations.

Suspicious person

12:25 a.m., Oct 11, Filbert Avenue

A bicyclist without a headlight was approached by officers. The man abandoned his bike and fled on foot.

Theft

Sept 15

A cell phone and two hands-free devices were stolen from a parked car.

4:30 p.m., Oct 10, Myrtle Street

A man with a car for sale told police that he let an interested buyer use the vehicle for a test drive. The customer never returned with the vehicle. Five days later, the victim saw the car thief and confronted him, but the suspect ran away on foot.

10:30 p.m., Oct 11, railroad Avenue

A 1990 tan Chevy pickup was stolen by an unknown suspect. The truck is valued at approximately $4,500.
