Susan Jane Farrell (Quigley) of Half Moon Bay, CA died September 11, 2008 at age 64, during treatment for leukemia. Born to Donald and Helen Quigley in Seneca Falls, N.Y. on Feb. 26, 1944, she attended Ovid Central School, and in 1963 married Thomas F. Johnston Jr. They had two daughters, Jill and Laura, and moved to California in 1972.

They divorced in 1977, and Susan earned an A.S. degree at Foothill College in 1983. In 1986 Susan married Peter Clark Farrell and moved to Half Moon Bay in 1993.

Susan worked at Stanford University in admissions and student services from 1993 until 2008. On January 11, 2007, she joyfully witnessed the birth of her first grandchild, Lucy Samantha Covington. Susan was the treasured heart of her family, to whom she was devoted, a beloved friend and colleague, philanthropist, animal lover, and world traveler. Her wit, generosity, wisdom and kindness endeared her to those who knew her, and her compassion extended to any person or animal in need that she was able to help.

She is survived by husband Peter Farrell of Half Moon Bay, daughter Laura Johnston and son-in-law John Lundberg of San Francisco, daughter Jill Covington and son-in-law Michael Covington and cherished granddaughter Lucy Covington of San Jose.

Memorial services will be held on October 17, 4 p.m. at Ananda Temple, 2171 El Camino Real, Palo Alto. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: Best Friends Animal Society, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
