Pescadero man prevents trespassers from escaping capture

Four trespassers who were allegedly stealing things from a Pescadero property at about 3 a.m. on Sept. 4 fled after the owner of the property spotted them and fired a warning shot into the air. The four ran out into the nearby fields, but the property owner and an employee discovered their vehicle and flattened the tires to prevent them from getting away before the Sheriff’s deputies arrived. The four — Grant William Coles, Richard Allen Miller, Taryn Lyne Reyes and Stacy Lee Lohse — were all booked on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, vandalism, conspiracy, resisting police officers, unlawful entry, and possession of burglary tools.

Two Half Moon Bay High students were involved in a fight, reportedly over gang rivalry.

1:45 p.m., Sept 11, Lewis Foster Drive

Two students at Half Moon Bay High were being harassed by a larger group of students. Everyone agreed to stop bickering.

Disorderly conduct

5:25 p.m., Sept 12, Lewis Foster Drive

Three Half Moon Bay High School students were reportedly drunk. The three girls were released to their parents.

Dispute

Sept 5, Touraine Lane

Two neighbors were arguing over a shared fence line and damage done to a hedge. An officer forwarded the case to the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center for mediation.

DUI

2:07 a.m., Sept 11, Grand Boulevard

Officers performed a traffic stop and found a driver too drunk to be driving. The 28-year-old driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested for driving drunk and with a suspended license.

Graffiti

Correas Street

Gang graffiti was found in the men’s room of the Half Moon Bay Library. The graffiti damage was not permanent.

Hit and run

9:34 p.m., Sept 12, Highway 1

An 18-year-old driver reportedly ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle. The driver sped away, leaving the scene, but he was located later at his home by officers. The driver told police he was afraid. Police found two cases of beer in his car and a pipe with marijuana residue under the driver’s seat. The suspect admitted to driving the vehicle at the time of the collision and showed signs of intoxication.

Identity theft

5:50 p.m., Sept. 9, Miramontes Avenue

A Half Moon Bay resident received a call from her credit card company regarding two suspicious purchases that occurred out of the state. The company did not hold her responsible for the purchases and she was given information on preventing ID theft.

Prowling

12:30 a.m., Sept 8, Third Avenue

A woman spotted an unknown man in her back yard when she was letting her dog out. The trespasser had apparently used a chair to climb over her backyard fence.

Theft

6:30 a.m., Sept 5, Filbert Street

Stereo headphones and a garage-door opener were stolen from a vehicle parked in front of a residence. The garage-door opener was used to open the garage of the home, but it is unknown if anything else was stolen.

8:15 a.m., Sept 6, Highway 92

A 1994 burgundy Ford Ranger was stolen from a gas station. The vehicle was unlocked and the keys were in the ignition.

3 p.m., Sept 12, Lewis Foster Drive

A bench valued at $100 was stolen from Half Moon Bay High School.

6:45 a.m., Sept 15, Mirada Road

A nearby resident found lots of mail scattered across the street that belonged to various addresses in the Miramar area.

Traffic incidents

6:08 a.m., Sept 10, Highway 92

A driver traveling east on Highway 92 swerved to avoid hitting a deer. The vehicle sideswiped a utility pole instead.

9:45 a.m., Sept 15, Main Street

A tour bus blocked the westbound lanes of Highway 92 after its bumper got stuck on the sidewalk. A tow truck arrived and was able to free the bus.

Warrant

10:25 p.m., Sept 10, Highway 1

Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. Police discovered that the 25-year-old driver had an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor.

Moss Beach

Public intoxication

10:22 p.m., Sept 7, California Avenue

A woman contacted Sheriff’s deputies, saying she wanted to make a report. The woman said that children were calling her names and that they were “scouts for prostitution” following her. She called the deputies “pigs” and talked of going to Los Angeles to be an actress. All this time, the woman was swaying on her feet and having a difficult time walking. Deputies arrested her after determining she was too drunk to care for herself.

Medical aid

6:30 a.m., Sept 4, San Gregorio State Beach

An unattended motorcycle found off the highway was discovered to be owned by a missing woman. The owner reportedly had left several suicide notes at her home stating that she was going to a motel or a beach to kill herself. Deputies spotted footprints on the beach and, shortly afterward, found a naked, confused and disoriented woman walking around. Medics were called out, and the woman was brought to a hospital.

Child endangerment

4:59 p.m., Sept 5, Highway 1

A 911 call alerted Sheriff’s deputies to a driver falling asleep at the wheel and swerving in the traffic lanes. After pulling over the suspect, the driver — Christa Luchetti of Half Moon Bay — displayed symptoms of being intoxicated. The driver admitted to taking medication that caused drowsiness, and she failed sobriety tests. She was also driving with a 4-year-old child.
