Now, go run.
The student-athletes at the school didn’t have much time to go from the lazy summer to build up for the fall sports year.

Results of the games were not available.
The soccer team at least has a chance to rest up a bit before its next match, Sept. 8, playing at Drew Prep.
Meanwhile, the volleyball team won’t have much time to recover from its match with San Francisco Christian. The Vikings were scheduled to host Woodside Priory Tuesday. Results of that match also weren’t available at press time.
The Vikings get a week off before playing their next nonleague match, going up the road to play at Half Moon Bay on Sept. 9.
The first day of practice was a little more intense than anyone anticipated.
“We ran two laps outside and 10 laps inside,” said volleyball player Maddie Downing. “I think it was a way to get our mind set for the season.”
Downing played club ball for the last six months. Other players were involved in other activities for the summer.
The first day of practice had mixed results.
“I was sore after practice,” Downing said. “But I slept well.”
No one on the volleyball team is worried about the quick turnaround from the start of school to the start of playing.
“Everyone is excited to play,” said Elena Scheer. “With the start coming so soon, we don’t have to get so anxious, waiting.”
That’s the same attitude with the soccer team.
“We all like to play,” said senior Edgar Ponce.
“We did the same thing last year,” added Javier Aranda.
The soccer team was busy during the first day of practice, also.
“We had to run 10 laps,” Ponce said. “Last year, we only had to run three laps. Some could handle it and some couldn’t.”
Both Aranda and Ponce admitted that they didn’t attend a conditioning session hosted by co-coach Joe Harrington.
“While I was on vacation, I did play some soccer,” Aranda said.
The first day of practice was a reminder of what needs to be done to be successful.
“I’m not in shape right now,” Ponce said. “I am running every day after school.”
