Sheriff's Office promotes two to ranking positions

San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks promoted two long-time employees to ranking positions on Tuesday.

Lt. Mark Wyss was elevated to the rank of captain. He has been a unit commander of the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force and will now assume the responsibility for the Sheriff’s Support Services Division. Wyss, a San Jose native, began his career in 1984 as a supervisor with the Sheriff’s Work Program. He went on to become a corrections officer and then deputy. Before his work with the Narcotics Task Force, he worked on a number of divisions, including Patrol and Corrections.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Ed Barbarini has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He grew up in Burlingame and has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 14 years. He has worked in a number of capacities, including a stint as Acting Lieutenant in Transportation.
