Nancy Kinghorn, community volunteer and interior designer, died on July 5, age 58.

Faithful friend, proud mother and valued community member, Nancy Kinghorn was the type of soul to tread lightly on the earth while making big impacts on the hearts of everyone she met. She is described by friends as an exceptional listener, a gentle spirit and unfailingly strong. Most of all, when friends and family talk about Nancy, they talk about her ability to connect with people. She knew that we consciously create the world around us and she aimed to create a peaceful world by greeting the people she met with a kind smile, thoughtful words and a keen ability to listen to better understand others.

She took this philosophy to her employment in realty and environmentally sound interior design. Nancy understood that making a home green and beautiful transformed a house into a place where the body and soul could thrive, not just live.

Nancy’s life continues through the lives she left behind — her friends, her father Charles Luce, and especially her two sons, Randy and Jay, who carry her thirst for knowledge and desire to contribute to the societies where they live. Nancy’s love of the Coastside community will continue through the San Mateo Coastside Realtors and affiliates holiday auction benefiting Coastside Hope, a nonprofit multi-service center which assists disadvantaged Coastside residents. To carry on Nancy’s love of learning, her family has established the Nancy Kinghorn Memorial Scholarship Fund to help Half Moon Bay High School graduates continue their education in universities and trade schools.

Most importantly, Nancy’s spirit will live on in the smile you greet a stranger with today.
