Cecilia Cooney

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Jul 16, 2008 - 02:26:57 pm PDT

Cecilia Cooney was born November 22, 1922 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Her family immigrated to San Francisco in 1932. There, in 1953, she met and married her husband of 53 years, John F. Cooney, a native of Galway, Ireland. Cecilia was a courageous adventurer who traveled extensively throughout Asia, climbing the Great Wall of China and sailing along the Yanzee River. She attended Mass at the Vatican in Rome with the Pope. Her favorite destination was Hawaii, which she visited often, along with numerous trips to Mexico. Cecilia was diagnosed in 2001 with cancer. While enduring exhausting debilitating treatments she remained the wonderful and brave woman that we all know.

She was a great lady and will always be an example of kindness and strength to all that know her. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

There will be a Mass for Cecilia at 4:30 p.m. on July 17th.
