High-speed chase ends in pursuit on foot

A 19-year-old former Half Moon Bay High student was charged with multiple misdemeanors after speeding about 100 mph through a red light, zooming past a Sheriff’s deputy car at 12:43 a.m. on July 1. The young man turned sharply onto Seymour Street with the deputy in pursuit, but he lost control, crashing into three parked cars at the James Ford dealership. The driver got out of his car and tried to run away, but he was detained by a deputy on foot. The driver was arrested for a DUI, hit-and-run, and obstructing an officer.

11:06 a.m., June 30, Coronado Street

Someone stole a lady’s purse from her unlocked vehicle parked in a relative’s driveway. The purse contained credit cards, MP3 player, cell phone and $300.

9:55 p.m., June 27, Johnson Pier

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a transient for urinating on the tire of a parked vehicle. The man was reportedly drunk and verbally abusive.

Vandalism

10:58 a.m., June 30, Avenue Alhambra

The victim was attending class and returned to find her passenger-side window broken.

9:30 p.m., July 1, Avenue Alhambra

Suspects damaged vehicles directly in front of a residence, causing a dent in the door and tearing off a door handle.

6:30 p.m., July 7, Belleville Boulevard

A resident reported an intoxicated man coming to his home and attempting to punch him in the face. The intoxicated man poked the victim in the face, causing a small cut, and he drove away. The victim did not seek prosecution.

Attempted burglary

8 a.m., July 1, Lewis Foster Drive

An unknown suspect accessed the Half Moon Bay High School gymnasium and damaged a door.

Domestic battery

9:19 p.m., July 2, Myrtle Street

A woman called police after her husband struck her. Officers arrested the 27-year-old man, taking him to county jail.

DUI

10:40 a.m., July 7, San Mateo Road

An officer stopped a driver after receiving reports of possible drunk driving. The driver was found over the legal limit and transported to the jail.

Fireworks

4:15 p.m., July 4, Filbert Street

Officers encountered two men who had about 25 pounds of illegal fireworks. Officers gave the fireworks to the fire marshal for destruction.

12:20 a.m., July 5, Mirada Road

Officers encountered a 15-year-old out after curfew and found the juvenile had a backpack full of illegal fireworks.

Obstruction

7:42 p.m., July 4, Silver Avenue

Officers stopped a bicyclist transporting a passenger improperly. One of the two riders fled police on the bike.

9:29 p.m., July 4, Grove Street

Officers were dispatched to reports of fireworks in the area and saw a man fleeing. The 21-year-old did not stop running after being told to stop, but he was detained by officers.

Reckless driving

12:30 p.m., July 4, Grove Street

A traffic-control officer for the Fourth of July parade saw a driver in the parade burn out, spinning the wheels of his tires. The driver was cited for causing unsafe conditions for pedestrians and those watching the parade.

6:20 p.m., July 5, San Mateo Road

An officer was dispatched to a homeless man reportedly urinating in a shopping center parking lot. The man denied urinating, but the officer discovered the man was wanted on four infractions.

3:11 a.m., June 29, Main Street

Sheriff’s deputies spotted a drunken driver veering into oncoming traffic on Highway 1. The driver was found to be above the legal limit of alcohol and was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon.

8:37 a.m., June 29, Virginia Avenue

A victim of vandalism said someone has been throwing rocks into his front yard for the last two years.

2:23 a.m., June 29, Johnson Pier

A 25-year-old man allegedly pointed a green laser at Sheriff’s deputies in a parked car. The man appeared drunk and was arrested for pointing the laser.

6:34 p.m., June 30

Someone took a woman’s purse sometime around 4:30 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies located the purse, and discovered all the lost items were still there, except for $160 in cash. The officers also discovered a small bag of marijuana. When the victim arrived to retrieve her lost possessions, the deputies asked her if she had a medical prescription for marijuana. She did not. The officers told her she would not be getting the marijuana back.
