Driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Jun 25, 2008 - 11:04:10 am PDT

Half Moon Bay Police say the head-on collision that took place on Highway 1 the afternoon of June 16 may have been the result of a driver falling asleep at the wheel. The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. just south of Capistrano Road. Police Chief Don O’Keefe said the accident is still under investigation but that preliminary reports suggest Half Moon Bay resident Domenic Cresci was driving northbound on Highway 1 when he fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the center divide and side-swiped southbound driver Jose Sanchez. Cresci then proceeded to hit a car driven by Half Moon Bay resident Thomas Modena. According to the police report, Modena and his wife, Frances, suffered some cuts and bruises, and Frances Modena received an injury to her arm. O’Keefe said Cresci tested clean for any alcohol or drug use.
