Unlikely pair met on Internet

Half Moon Bay Police, performing a routine traffic stop the morning of June 9, made an unusual discovery. They found a 20-year-old Tennessee man driving a 14-year-old girl around town. The pair met through an Internet chat room. The girl’s mother was told of the connection, and the man was issued a trespass warning to stay away from Half Moon Bay High School.

10 a.m., June 4, El Granada Boulevard

Someone broke into an unlocked car and took various things including a laptop computer.

Suspicious incident

6:40 p.m., June 1, Carmel Avenue

San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies received a report from a man who said someone wrote a derogatory term on the street in front of his house.

4:54 a.m., June 3, Valencia Avenue

A woman called deputies to report that when she came out to her driveway she found her car in the middle of the roadway. The contents of her glovebox had been scattered on the floorboard.

Theft

4:26 a.m., June 3, Vallejo Street

Thieves made off with a car and crashed it at the intersection of Avenua Balboa and Paloma Avenue. They fled before deputies arrived.

Half Moon Bay

Burglary

3:50 a.m., June 14, Filbert Street

Police charged 29-year-old Enrique Diaz with burglary and assault with a deadly weapon after responding to reports of a residential burglary. Residents said they awoke to find a drunken Diaz in their home. When confronted, Diaz left, but not before throwing a radio through the window.

Disturbance

5:45 p.m., June 11, Kehoe Avenue

Two neighbors, arguing over a parking space, brought police attention.

2:10 a.m., June 14, Pilarcitos Bridge

Police made contact with several people having a party below the bridge. Three of the seven — whom police described as gang members — were arrested on charges including being minors in possession of alcohol and for disorderly conduct.

Drugs

10:42 p.m., June 12, Spruce Street

A caller told police there was a suspicious person on his front porch. Police contacted a 17-year-old boy, who appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He also had a small amount of marijuana on him. He was taken to a hospital for observation. The case will be forwarded to the district attorney.

DUI

9:18 p.m., June 12, Grandview Boulevard

Police arrested an 18-year-old Half Moon Bay man for DUI and hit-and-run after determining he was driving a car that collided with a parked car.

Probation violation

2:03 a.m., June 14, Highway 1

Police contacted 26-year-old Jose Monroy of Half Moon Bay, whom they say is a known gang member. Monroy ran from police and was caught. He was charged with violating parole, obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct.

Suspicious circumstance

8:15 p.m., June 12, St. Joseph Avenue

A neighbor called police when he saw an unfamiliar woman inside his neighbor’s car. He said the woman was also looking in the windows of other cars on the street. Police were unable to locate the woman.

Theft

7:30 a.m., Pilarcitos Avenue

Officers took a report of the theft of CDs from a car that was parked overnight.

Vandalism

8:55 a.m., June 9, Miramontes Street

Someone cut the screen of a window at a church.

9:48 a.m., June 11, Lewis Foster Drive

Someone wrote on a student’s car with white paint.

12:11 p.m., June 13, Alameda Avenue

Two teenage friends became embroiled in a dispute and one threw the other’s cell phone on the ground, breaking it in half.

11 a.m., May 30, Airport Street

Someone rummaged through a victim’s boat. Nothing was stolen but the toilet was made to flood the cabin.
