Not so neighborly dispute leads to police measurements

On the afternoon of June 4, one Potter Avenue neighbor called Half Moon Bay Police on another. The first man has a restraining order against his neighbor that precludes the neighbor from coming within 10 feet of his property. The caller told police the man’s car was parked too close. Police took measurements and determined the car was not parked in violation of the court order.

Drunk in public

4:36 a.m., May 31, Avenue Del Oro

A man was reported as riding his bicycle while drunk. The man was located and so drunk that he could no longer find his bike. It was recovered from the middle of an intersection, and the man was taken to county jail.

Road obstacle

5:59 p.m., May 28, California Avenue

A woman said she was driving down the street when a tree branch struck the back of her car. A tree-trimming crew working in the area may have been responsible.

12:18 a.m., June 5, Pacific Avenue

Police were called to a disturbance and discovered the two young men involved were drunk in public. They were taken to county jail and later released.

7:51 p.m., June 6, Church Street

Police responded to a call about gang activity near the basketball courts at Cunha Intermediate School. Several people ran when police arrived, but one was found. The 19-year-old Half Moon Bay man was found to be too drunk to care for himself and taken to county jail.

Driving without a license

11:43 p.m., June 4, Grandview Boulevard

Police stopped a car for improper lights and found the 22-year-old driver from Sacramento was driving with a suspended license. He was cited and released.

5:30 p.m., June 5, Stone Pine Road

Police were called to a pharmacy about a forged prescription. The suspect admitted to the forgery and the case is being forwarded to the district attorney.

10:55 p.m., June 5, Highway 1

Police stopped a driver for having no tail light and discovered the 22-year-old Half Moon Bay resident to be in possession of marijuana.

10:38 p.m., June 6, Poplar Beach

An 18-year-old Half Moon Bay man with an open can of beer ran into a police foot patrol. He was subsequently arrested for being a minor in possession of alcohol and also for having marijuana.

11:12 p.m., June 6, Potter Street

Police found five juveniles and an 18-year-old smoking marijuana inside a parked car. One 16-year-old was charged with possession of marijuana for sale and others were charged with simple possession of marijuana, possession of alcohol by a minor and furnishing tobacco to a minor.

DUI

11:27 p.m., June 7, Filbert Street

Police arrested an 18-year-old Half Moon Bay woman for DUI after watching her stumble from a party to her car and drive away from the scene. She was taken to First Chance.

3:35 p.m., June 2, Bancroft Way

A resident asked police for help destroying a rifle.

Suspicious circumstance

9:30 p.m., June 6, Touraine Lane

A resident saw a person crouching near his car. When the resident shouted, the man ran.

Theft

June 2, Lewis Foster Drive

Over the weekend, someone broke a window and stole a projector from the high school.

9 p.m., June 4, Purissima Street

A woman reported her car was stolen while she was away from home. Police notifed surrounding agencies of the theft.

9 a.m., June 5, Church Street

Police were dispatched to Cunha Intermediate School on a report that a 12-year-old boy had brought a knife to school. Police recovered what they described as a “small knife,” arrested the boy and later released him to parents.

3:35 p.m., May 31, Main Street

A woman said she parked her unlocked car in her garage and that when she returned it had been ransacked. Stolen was $11.

Gang activity

3:35 p.m., June 2, Virginia Avenue

Two men got into an argument and when one, a reputed gang member, went to the Sheriff’s substation to report a separate incident, the second man pointed him out to authorities. Deputies searched the first man and discovered a knife. He was arrested for a series of things, including felony assault, and was booked into county jail.

8:56 p.m., June 1, Highway 1

Deputies stopped a driver who failed to have his lights on. They smelled marijuana and found methamphetamine inside. Both driver and passenger were taken to jail.

4:40 p.m., May 30, Higgins Purisima Road

A woman reported that someone was harassing her dogs when she wasn’t home. The dogs’ collars had been cut and mounds of dirt piled into their food dishes.
