San Mateo County deputies were on routine patrol during the Pacific Coast Dream Machines event, the afternoon of April 27, when they noticed someone driving a motorized bicycle through the crowd. The deputies stopped the man and asked if he had been drinking. When the motor-biker answered that he had had three beers, he was given sobriety tests, which he failed. The man was charged with DUI and taken to county jail.

Deputies had one car stopped for a traffic violation when they were nearly hit by another. They gave chase and stopped the second driver, after seeing him throw things from the window. They arrested 24-year-old Nicolas Velarde of El Granada for DUI and felony possession of a controlled substance after determining that he was throwing drugs out of the window.

A 61-year-old Half Moon Bay man was taken to county jail after he was determined to be too drunk to care for himself.

A 29-year-old Pacifica resident was cited for driving without a license.

A 33-year-old San Francisco resident was cited for having no license.

9:09 p.m., May 4, Kelly Avenue

Police cited a 24-year-old Half Moon Bay resident for driving on a suspended license, failure to stop at a stop sign, expired registration, no proof of insurance and giving false information to a police officer.

8:14 p.m, May 2, Poplar Street

A 55-year-old San Mateo man was taken to First Chance after he proved to be intoxicated while driving his car into a trash can.

Harassment

2:30 p.m., April 27, Highway 1

A woman told police that an unknown man telephoned her at home after a confrontation in a shopping center parking lot.

7:14 p.m., April 28, Seymour Street

Someone reported harassing phone calls, but declined to prosecute. The caller was warned by officers.

10:18 p.m., May 2, Myrtle Street

A citizen reported harassing calls from someone wanting to recover his property. Police contacted the caller and told him to stop calling.

Identity theft

April 28, Miramontes Avenue

Police took report of someone using a Half Moon Bay woman’s credit card information to purchase $1,591.42 worth of car wheels over the Internet.

12:20 p.m., May 1, Kelly Avenue

Someone called an elderly female, claiming to be a representative of AT&T. The caller wanted the woman’s Social Security number. The woman’s son called AT&T and confirmed that the utility did not call.

Lost property

9:40 a.m., April 30, Highway 92

A woman told police that she left her purse in a shopping cart and when she returned, it was gone. She lost $125 and credit cards.

Theft

April 28, Highway 1

Police responded after a local store reported that a 15-year-old boy had stolen $17.51 worth of candy. Employees declined to prosecute and the boy was taken back to Half Moon Bay High School.

1 a.m., April 29, Grove Street

A man told police that he woke up to find his son stealing his pants and a wallet containing $1,400. The 18-year-old son took off with his girlfriend. He faces charges including burglary and grand theft, and the girlfriend may be charged with being an accessory to the crime.

2:16 a.m., May 4, Dwight Avenue

Police were called about a disturbance in the street. When they responded, a crowd scattered. They found a homeless man sleeping in a nearby vacant home and told him to leave.

2 p.m., April 30, Lewis Foster Drive

Police arrested two 16-year-old girls who had been drinking alcohol during lunch.

12:21 p.m., April 30, Lewis Foster Drive

Someone reported that an acquaintance put dirt on her car. The boy said he would pay a car wash fee to clean it off.

3 p.m., May 2, Miramontes Street

Someone apparently drove across a grave in a local cemetery, knocking down a cross and cracking the stone cover.

6:30 p.m., May 4, Golden Gate Avenue

Someone reported that his neighbors threw soup on his truck and he wanted the incident documented.

Overnight, someone stole $412 worth of valuables from an unlocked car.

Deputies responded to report of a car fire and subsequently learned the unattended car was reported stolen out of San Francisco.

7:38 a.m., Franklin Street

Thieves entered an unlocked car and took an iPod and other personal effects.

1:07 p.m., April 27, Montara State Beach

A passing motorist told deputies that someone stole his iPod and wallet from his car while he was on the beach.

Highway 1

Someone smashed a window of a car parked at McNee Ranch and took a backpack and purse. The loss was totaled at $610.

11:29 p.m., April 25, Capistrano Road

Deputies stopped a 38-year-old Moss Beach woman for a vehicle code violation and ended up taking her to jail for drunken driving.

2:25 a.m., April 30, Highway 1

Deputies stopped a 29-year-old Half Moon Bay woman near Verde Road after seeing her drift out of the lane. She failed a blood-alcohol test and was taken to county jail.

5:32 p.m., April 25, Nasturtium Road

A parent reported that two children’s bicycles were stolen. The caller said that, in the past, neighborhood children had taken the bikes and that they had recovered them later.
