Disagreement ends in battery arrest

A man and a woman were involved in an argument at

11:11 a.m. on March 28 on The Alameda in El Granada, when things got out of hand. San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies were called when the woman allegedly hit the man in the head with a telephone. Deputies checked and found the woman was also wanted on a misdemeanor warrant. The victim placed the woman under “citizen’s arrest” for battery, and she was taken to county jail.

A car owner said someone entered her unlocked car and took a radar detector.

A homeowner told deputies that someone stole $200 worth of electronic equipment from his unlocked car.

Someone stole a car after first breaking into two other vehicles on the property.

Someone broke into a car parked in the driveway and stole $30 and a set of keys.

Soemone took a wallet and $100 from an unlocked car.

Two gashes were cut in the soft top of a car and the inside was trashed.

Two intoxicated transients were arrested at a restaurant on charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

2:44 p.m., April 4, Kelly Avenue

Police charged a 37-year-old Half Moon Bay man after he crashed his bicycle into a car.

Driving without a license

1:40 p.m., March 29, Main Street

Police cited one driver, a 21-year-old from Moss Beach, with operating a vehicle without a license after a minor collision.

10:10 p.m., March 29, Main Street

Police gave an 18-year-old Half Moon Bay resident with a series citations after finding him driving without a license. Among other things, he was charged with failing to yield for an emergency vehicle.

2:20 p.m., March 30, Main Street

Police cited a 34-year-old Half Moon Bay woman with driving without a license.

6:17 a.m., March 31, Kelly Avenue

A 43-year-old Half Moon Bay man was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road and not having a license.

11:42 p.m., March 31, Kelly Avenue

A 29-year-old San Mateo woman was cited for running a stop sign and driving without a license.

Drugs

1:25 a.m., March 30, Grove Street

Police charged a 16-year-old from Montara after finding him with Ecstacy. He was delivered to his parents.

7:15 p.m., April 1, Magnolia Street

Police confronted a group of juveniles in a grove of trees near Magnolia Street and found one 17-year-old boy from Half Moon Bay to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

12:44 p.m., April 4, Lewis Foster Drive

Police charged two teenagers — one 14 and the other 15 — with several drug-related charges after determining they were under the influence of marijuana.

2:45 p.m., April 4, Lewis Foster Drive

Police charged a 14-year-old girl with a marijuana offense and released her to her parents.

DUI

8:44 a.m., March 28

Police stopped a 48-year-old Santa Cruz man because they suspected he had been drinking. He subsequently failed sobriety tests and police discovered the car he was driving had been reported stolen.

Police took a 21-year-old Pescadero resident to county jail after stopping him for drunken driving.

A 21-year-old Half Moon Bay resident was charged with DUI and other violations after a traffic stop for reckless driving.

1:35 a.m., April 5, Purissima Street

Police charged a pair of juveniles with a variety of offenses, including DUI and possession of marijuana.

Dumping

Officers responded when someone complained that two couches and three cabinets had been dumped in an alleyway.

Medical call

Police responded when a 7-year-old rode his bike off the bluff top and onto the beach below. The child was transported to Stanford Hospital.

Restraining order

Police investigated when someone bound by a restraining order was reported at an area home in violation of that order.

Suspicious circumstance

Police spoke with a woman who believes she has been followed by a local man for the last couple of years.

Someone told police that a neighbor moved his car by pushing it.

Theft

8:30 a.m., March 28, Higgins Purissima Road

A bronze-colored plaque, valued at $399, was removed from a city park.

8:30 a.m., March 31, Arnold Way

Someone reported the theft of tools, a cell phone and a driver’s license from an unlocked car.

2 p.m., March 31, Colonel Way

Someone stole a cell phone from an unlocked car.

6 a.m., April 2, Main Street

A property owner reported the theft of lumber from his business.

8 a.m., April 6, Laurel Street

Police responded when someone reported the theft of a large bag of empty beer cans. The man said he planned on recycling them and valued the cans at $2.50.

Threats

1:15 p.m., April 1, Miramontes Avenue

Police were called after a 10-year-old threatened an 8-year-old. The case was forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office for investigation.

Vandalism

7 a.m., April 1, Arnold Way

Someone cut the lock on a chain-link fence.

9:34 p.m., March 30, Vermont Avenue

Deputies charged a 28-year-old woman with DUI after seeing her cross the double-yellow line.

12:16 a.m., March 30, Capistrano Road

Deputies saw a car going the wrong way on a one-way street and stopped the driver. A 61-year-old Arizona man failed sobriety tests and was taken to county jail.

Two women got into a fight at a local bar, causing minor injuries.

Local ranger joins Fitzgerald board


Visitors to Fitzgerald Marine Reserve are likely to recognize Ranger Sarah Lenz. The Half Moon Bay resident looks after the sensitive tide pools, which are home to harbor seals, hermit crabs and other aquatic critters. She also directs Junior Ranger Camps, which help children learn how to interact with the reserve’s wildlife.
