Crash ends in arrest in Pescadero

San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies were trying to get to the bottom of a single-vehicle crash on Cloverdale Road in Pescadero the morning of March 21, when they contacted local resident, 59-year-old Manuel Soliz. Soliz, who wasn’t with the vehicle when deputies arrived, said he purchased the car but it was reported stolen out of Fresno. Further, Soliz was wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s service for a felony warrant.

DUI

10:49 p.m., March 23, Avenue Alhambra

Deputies approached a 63-year-old Moss Beach man who parked illegally in a handicapped spot. They smelled alcohol and learned he had been driving on a suspended license due to a previous DUI. He was taken to jail.

Theft

11:40 a.m., March 20, Almeria Avenue

Deputies returned credit cards to a woman whose purse had been stolen. She didn’t report the crime because she thought she had misplaced her purse. Instead, the cards turned up in the hands of a man who had been arrested recently.

Half Moon Bay

Driving without a license

8:19 a.m., March 24, Grove Street

A 29-year-old Half Moon Bay man was charged with driving without a license.

11:42 p.m., March 25,

Highway 1

Police cited a 23-year-old Half Moon Bay man for driving without a license and having improper lighting on his vehicle.

2:24 a.m., March 26, Highway 1

Police stopped a 32-year-old Half Moon Bay man for having improper lighting on his car and also cited him for being unlicensed.

Drugs

8 a.m., March 27, Lewis Foster Drive

Police were called by the high school because two students were behaving strangely. The boys, 15 and 17 respectively and both from El Granada, admitted to taking drugs. A report will be sent to the district attorney.

5:30 p.m., March 27, Lewis Foster Drive

Police searched an abandoned backpack, looking for the identity of the owner. They also found marijuana inside and subsequently charged a 16-year-old Moss Beach resident with possession.

Suspicious circumstance

12:45 p.m., March 24, Church Street

Police were called about a suspicious person but he was gone when officers arrived.

Theft

March 25, Ventura Street

The owners of a vehicle reported that they locked their car in their driveway overnight and when they went outside the next day it was gone.

2 p.m., March 26, Lewis Foster Drive

A 15-year-old girl admitted to having taken a cell phone belonging to another student.

4:30 p.m., March 26, Grove Street

A large amount of copper was taken from a front yard.

10:12 p.m., March 24, Stone Pine Road

Police arrested a San Francisco man on a warrant violation and transported him to county jail.

Weapons

11:17 a.m., March 24, Kelly Avenue

Someone brought in two billy clubs to the police station for destruction.

Montara

Burglary

1:14 p.m., March 20, McNee Ranch

Someone smashed the window of a car parked on the east side of Highway 1 and took numerous things that were stashed inside.

2 p.m., March 23, Highway 1

Someone broke into a locked car, using a key the car’s owner had tried to hide. After making off with wallets and other property, the thief put the key inside and locked the door.

6:48 a.m., March 20, 14th Street

A woman told deputies she parked her car overnight and returned to find the back window broken.

Moss Beach

Theft

1 p.m., March 22, Cypress Avenue

Someone stole a backpack from an unlocked car. The backpack contained $700 worth of personal property.

Unincorporated San Mateo County

Burglary

3:30 p.m., Highway 1

Someone smashed the window of a car parked near Tunitas Creek Road and stole about $840 worth of belongings.

Coastside family seeks donations of rare blood type


Coastside couple Larry and Shirley Gurnett are praying for their 18-year-old nephew, Travis Zacarius, who is due shortly for open-heart surgery. They are also hoping for some good Samaritans in the form of donors whose blood matches Travis’ rare blood type.
