Creek in rough shape

In anticipation of its upcoming Ocean Leadership Conference starting March 12, volunteers from Save Our Shores (http://www.saveourshores.org) took a closer look at Pilarcitos Creek on Thursday afternoon. What they found wasn't pretty.

"The creek is really a lot better than it used to be before the bridge went in, but it's still awful," said Save Our Shores volunteer Brenda Donald, referring to the footbridge behind the Burger King restaurant in Half Moon Bay.

Donald snapped photographs of discarded jugs of oil, worn tires tossed into the creek bed and other debris on the creek's shores. "There'€™s room for improvement," she said.

The conference is part of Save Our Shores' attempt to re-establish its presence on the Coastside by educating local residents about watershed and ocean health. It will be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays from March 12 to March 22 at the Harbor House Conference Center in Princeton.
