HYBRID DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED

Half Moon Bay Police worked a very serious traffic accident Monday morning near the intersection of Highway 1 and Poplar Avenue. Capt. Michael O'Malley said a Honda hybrid turned from the stop sign at Poplar into the path of an SUV traveling southbound on Highway 1. The driver of the hybrid was seriously injured. Reports remained sketchy at the Review's deadline.

Animal complaint

5:43 a.m., Jan. 24, Bancroft Avenue

Residents called police to complain about an early-rising rooster. The report was sent to the city's code enforcement officer.

Burglary

6:30 a.m., Jan. 25, Main Street

Someone took a sump pump from a rental yard over night. The pump was valued at $1,399.

10 a.m., Jan. 26, Main Street

Police took a report after someone broke through a window to get into a local business. Once there, the thief took about $200 in cash.

Driving without a license

12:18 p.m., Jan. 24, Highway 92

Police responded to a minor traffic accident and found one party, an 18-year-old Moss Beach resident, to be unlicensed.

3:33 p.m., Jan. 24, Main Street

Police stopped a 15-year-old Half Moon Bay driver for driving too fast. They also learned he had no license or insurance.

12:35 p.m., Jan. 25, Lewis Foster Drive

An officer stopped an 18-year-old Half Moon Bay resident for driving too fast and found the teen didn't have a license or insurance.

Gangs

7:20 p.m., Jan. 26

Local police assisted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in arresting two known gang members police say arrived in the United States illegally.

Firearms

9:53 a.m., Jan. 25, Kehoe Avenue

A citizen turned over two guns for police to destroy.

Loud party

2:34 a.m., Jan. 26, Highway 1

After complaints of a loud party at a hotel room, police found several juveniles drinking in the room. They were released to their parents.

Theft

11:30 a.m., Jan. 23, Highway 1

A woman returned to her unlocked car to find her wallet missing.

Troon Way

Police contacted the district attorney after a local resident reported paying for something over the Internet but never receiving the product.

Traffic accident

5:55 p.m., Jan. 24, Highway 1

Officers received a report about a traffic hazard and found a tractor-trailer stuck in the mud on the west shoulder of the road just north of Terrace Avenue. They controlled traffic until a tow truck arrived.

Truancy

11:08 a.m., Jan. 25, Oleander

Administrators at Half Moon Bay High School called police to report a truant. The juvenile was found at his home and taken to school.

Vehicle fire

1:59 p.m., Jan. 17, Highway 1

San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies assisted local firefighters, who extinguished a vehicle fire at Miramontes Point Road.

Civil dispute

11:45 a.m., Jan. 18, La Honda Road

A woman called to report that her neighbor blocked access across what he considers his property.

MIRAMAR

10:42 p.m., Jan. 17, Mirada Road

A Half Moon Bay man admitted to deputies that he threw marijuana out of the window of his car as he was being pulled over. A drug-sniffing dog found the marijuana.

MOSS BEACH

1 a.m., Jan. 23, Highway 1

Deputies checked on a man sleeping in his car on the side of the road. He had a marijuana cigarette in the ashtray. He was cited and released.

UNINCORPORATED SAN MATEO COUNTY

Drugs

3:07 a.m., Jan. 19, Verde Road

A man was pulled over and found to have a suspended license. A search of the vehicle also turned up a bag of suspected marijuana. He was cited and released.
