Mail tampering case is a felony

At 5:50 p.m., on Dec. 11, someone called San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies to report that a group of community mailboxes at the intersection of San Carlos and Paloma avenues in El Granada had been tampered with. Someone entered the caller's mailbox, opened her mail and then put it in another of the community boxes. Destroying mail is a felony, and it was reported to the U.S. Postmaster's Office.

HALF MOON BAY

Disorderly conduct

1 p.m., Dec. 13, Lewis Foster Drive

A 17-year-old boy was arrested by Half Moon Bay Police at the high school on charges of public intoxication. He was released to a relative.

Disturbance

1:46 p.m., Dec. 11, Highway 1

Police were called to a medical office because of an unruly patient. He was issued a trespassing warning.

8:05 p.m., Dec. 14, Highway 92

Police broke up a confrontation between what they believed to be rival gang members.

Domestic battery

2:30 a.m., Dec. 15, Bayhill Road

Police investigated after an 18-year-old woman was accused of breaking into her ex-boyfriend's house and slapping and punching the man. The case was forwarded to the district attorney for review.

DUI

12:06 a.m., Dec. 14, Highway 1

A 48-year-old Half Moon Bay resident was arrested for DUI after she was involved in a single-car accident. She was taken to Stanford Hospital for treatment.

Fire

4:33 a.m., Dec. 12, Highway 1

Police stood by as firefighters doused a 1997 Chevy Cavalier. The car's engine was engulfed in flames.

Missing person

4:15 p.m., Dec. 13, Lewis Foster Drive

Police located a missing juvenile and returned the teen to his parents.

Theft

Dec. 12, Kelly Avenue

Someone told police that a bicycle was stolen from his house. He found it and the person in possession of the bike said he had found it in front of a Dumpster. The bike was returned to its rightful owner.

Dec. 13, Miramontes Street

Police investigated the theft of $1,500 worth of tools from an unlocked shed.

5:15 p.m., Dec. 13, Church Street

An unlocked bicycle was reported stolen from in front of Cunha Intermediate School.

Vandalism

Dec. 11, Pine Street

A car owner reported that the front and back windshields of the car were smashed.

5:45 a.m., Dec. 11, Highway 92

Someone threw a beer bottle through the front window of a business.

MONTARA

DUI

10:40 p.m., Dec. 7, Gray Whale Cove

A 44-year-old woman from Trabuco Canyon was arrested for DUI after a passing motorist called 911 to say her car was weaving over the centerline.

Theft

9:30 p.m., Dec. 10, Kanoff Avenue

Someone broke into an unlocked vehicle to steal a laptop computer and accessories.

MOSS BEACH

Mail fraud

11:40 a.m., Dec. 10, California Avenue

A woman told deputies that she had a letter informing her she had won a sweepstakes and only needed to send $2,885 to a person in Canada to earn a $250,000 check. Deputies told the woman it was a scam and that she should throw away the letter.
