The crash occurred at 3:24 p.m. on Highway 92 near Crystal Springs Reservoir. Marschall was a passenger in a 1994 Subaru, driven by her 16-year-old daughter, when another driver apparently crossed the centerline to strike the Subaru head-on. The other car was a westbound 2006 Honda, driven by an Antioch woman.
All three people in the two cars were taken to Stanford Hospital, where the elder Marschall was pronounced dead. Daughter Sarah remained in the hospital Tuesday, suffering from a serious ankle fracture.

"We are devastated by this loss," said Menlo College President G. Timothy Haight. "Dr. Marschall was an outstanding researcher and a dedicated teacher, and she clearly was beloved by her students at Menlo. They, along with everyone else on campus, are trying to fathom the unfathomable."
Marschall is survived by her husband, Joe, daughter Sarah and son Evan, as well as her mother, father and three sisters. Funeral arrangements were pending Tuesday. Students planned a vigil in Marschall's honor Tuesday evening, after Review deadlines.
CHP spokeswoman Grace Castillo said the collision remains under investigation and that no charges have yet been filed as a result of the incident. She asks that anyone with information about the collision call (650) 369-6261.
