The Half Moon Bay City Council Tuesday night voted unanimously for an urgency ordinance canceling a planned February vote on an increase in the Transient Occupancy Tax within city limits. It is the first action taken to address last week's $36.8 million judgment against the city.
The action was taken during a regularly scheduled City Council meeting. All five City Council members were in attendance.
In addition, the council plans to meet with appellate specialists from four legal firms during a closed session Friday. And elected leaders will also meet with outside financial advisors, presumably to devise a potential strategy for paying off all or part of the judgment sometime in the future.
The city has until Dec. 28 to decide whether to appeal the Nov. 28 federal court decision, which sided with Beachwood developers following an inverse condemnation suit.
