Suspicious items recovered during search

San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies stopped a car for rolling through a stop sign and inside found a parolee with a box filled with designer knock-offs the man couldn't adequately explain. The 27-year-old man was arrested on Main Street in Montara after deputies discovered a cardboard box with hats, visors, purses and sunglasses bearing the names of BeBe, Gucci and a slew of other designer names. The man said they were replicas from his aunt's store, but he couldn't get his aunt on the phone. The merchandise was booked into evidence and the man taken to jail.

Assault

7:29 p.m., Nov. 19, Spruce Street

A man told police that a woman in his home tried to strike him with an object. The woman denied it, and the case will be forwarded to the district attorney for review.

Attempted burglary

5:29 p.m., Nov. 22, North Cabrillo Highway

A business owner called police to say someone had attempted to gain access to the store through a rear door. The owner theorized the alarm scared the burglars away.

Battery

11:35 p.m., Nov. 19, Pilarcitos Avenue

Police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance between a mother and her adult daughter. Neither party wished to prosecute and police stood by while the younger woman left for the night.

5 p.m., Nov. 24, Myrtle Street

The victim of a theft confronted the person he suspected of taking his property. Then the two got into a physical altercation.

Driving without a license

2:53 a.m., Nov. 19, Highway 1

A 23-year-old Half Moon Bay man was arrested for driving without a license. He was also wanted on a $5,000 warrant out of San Mateo.

8:30 a.m., Nov. 21, Miramontes Point Road

A 22-year-old Half Moon Bay man was found to be unlicensed after being stopped for an expired tag. He was cited.

10:58 p.m., Nov. 21, Kelly Avenue

A 20-year-old Half Moon Bay man was cited and released after failing to stop for a stop light. He was also charged with not having a license and having no insurance.

1:51 p.m., Nov. 23, Main Street

An officer noticed a car with malfunctioning brake lights and stopped an 18-year-old Half Moon Bay man. He turned out to have no license, no insurance and expired registration.

10:34 p.m., Nov. 23, Filbert Street

Police stopped a Half Moon Bay man for having improper lights on his car. Not only was 26-year-old Erasmo Chavez found to be without a license or insurance, but he was also wanted on a felony warrant. He was taken to county jail.

Drugs

3:06 p.m., Nov. 23, Poplar Street

Police arrested a pair of 17-year-old boys from over the hill for possession of pills, marijuana and alcohol. One boy was taken to juvenile hall, the other released to parents.

DUI

1:43 a.m., Nov. 13, San Mateo Road

Police were called to a restaurant because two patrons refused to leave when asked to do so. They were gone when police arrived but stopped at a nearby convenience store, where police spotted their car. The 26-year-old Half Moon Bay resident who was driving was arrested for DUI, open container and having a suspended license.

Fire

12:29 p.m., Nov. 21, Cypress Avenue

Police got to a kitchen fire before firefighters and put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

Suspicious circumstance

Nov. 13, Myrtle Street

A woman reported receiving harassing phone calls and suspected they were coming from a solicitor she asked to leave her property a day before.

Vandalism

10:36 p.m., Nov. 20, Pine Street

A caller told police that he parked his car on the street and when he returned he found the rear window had been smashed.

Theft

12:13 p.m., Nov. 17, Birch Street

The owners of two cars in the area reported break-ins.

Princeton

Assault

7:10 a.m., Nov. 17, Harvard Avenue

Someone said he got in a verbal confrontation at a Princeton intersection when an unknown suspect threw hot coffee at him. The victim reported the incident at the Moss Beach Sheriff's substation and was checked by medical personnel. A restraining order has been served against the suspect.

Battery

10:15 p.m., Nov. 8, California Avenue

An 18-year-old Half Moon Bay man was charged with battery on a police officer, possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance after scuffling with a San Mateo County Sheriff's deputy. The teen asked the deputy to "give him a break" when asked about beer in his hand. Officials say he tried to run and a tussle ensued.

DUI

11:43 p.m., Nov. 16, Capistrano Road

A 49-year-old Half Moon Bay man admitted that he had been drinking after deputies stopped him upon watching his car drift over the highway lines. He failed sobriety tests and was taken to county jail.
