NEAR DROWNING REPORTED AT MONTARA STATE BEACH

Witnesses watched as a female surfer struggled to stay afloat near Montara State Beach at about 9:21 a.m., Sept. 23. They screamed for help, and two surfers paddled to the scene. They found her struggling to breathe and exhausted. The surfers brought her to shore and waiting paramedics. The victim was taken to Stanford Hospital via Life Flight.

EL GRANADA

Endangering a child

6:54 p.m., Sept. 21, Avenue Alhambra

An anonymous caller reported a drunken driver, who reportedly had a small child in the car. Deputies stopped the car and interviewed the driver, 32-year-old D. Peter Savvon III. He was found to be under the influence, arrested for felony child endangerment and taken to county jail. The child's mother picked up the child from the scene.

Theft

12:32 p.m., Sept. 19, Shelter Cove Drive

Someone stole a Canon digital camera and a debit card from a woman's purse. The thief used the card at a local gas station. The victim suspects the theft may be related to a guest she had in her house recently.

HALF MOON BAY

Check fraud

Sept. 13, Main Street

Half Moon Bay Police contacted a customer about a series of bad checks written to a downtown business. The customer agreed to make good on the payments.

Fight

1:52 a.m., Sept. 30, North Cabrillo Highway

Police were dispatched to the scene of a fight. Two of the four combatants were gone when officers arrived, but two victims were found and one was treated at an area hospital.

Illegal dumping

6 a.m., Sept. 27, Kelly Avenue

A business owner complained that someone left a bunch of junk in front of the business overnight.

Theft

Aug. 20, Kelly Avenue

A woman told police she believed her purse had been stolen about a month ago.

Sept. 14, Main Street

Police learned of the theft of as many as 50 water meters from a maintenance yard.

Sept. 28, Wavecrest

Someone reported the theft of about $5,000 worth of electrical equipment from a storage building.

8:15 a.m., Sept. 29, San Mateo Road

Someone climbed a fence to take a statue from a business.

Trespassing

11:58 a.m., Sept. 27, Main Street

Someone complained that two people were taking recylables that had been left out for collection. The complainant asked for additional patrols in the area.

Unlicensed driver

10:42 p.m., Sept. 26, Roosevelt Boulevard

A police officer on patrol stopped a driver for going too fast and discovered the woman had no license. She was cited and released.

MOSS BEACH

Burglary

9:21 a.m., Sept. 22, Airport Street

The owner of a boat storage yard reported that someone gained entrance and stole $3,000 worth of equipment.

Vandalism

6:17 a.m., Airport Street, Moss Beach

A big rig driver complained after someone spray-painted the letters "BS" on the side of his truck, along with what appeared to be the profile of a face.

PESCADERO

Tree incident

8:30 a.m., Sept. 24, Pescadero Creek Road

A property owner became incensed by a PG&E tree-cutting operation. The owner said the trees were planted years ago and that the utility company was butchering them. Deputies heard the complaint but no action was taken.

UNINCORPORATED SAN MATEO COUNTY

Auto burglary

5:17 p.m., Sept. 21, Highway 1

A woman told deputies that she parked her car near the beach and returned 30 minutes later to find a window smashed and her purse missing.
