Jewelry thieves get away with $4,000 worth of goods

A Moss Beach resident came home one day in May to find his bedroom window broken. At the time, the victim did not discover anything missing from his home and, therefore, he did not report it to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. About a month later, the victim's girlfriend discovered that five pieces of her jewelry and the jewelry box were missing from the bathroom. She estimated the loss at about $4,000. The victim still didn't call the Sheriff's Office - until his insurance company told him he would need a report in order to file a claim. He spoke to Sheriff's deputies on June 29.

EL GRANADA

Stolen vehicle

1:33 p.m., July 1

Deputies met with the owner of a car who said that his car was stolen from in front of his house in the last couple days. He said he may have left the keys in the car. Five hours later the man called the Sheriff's Office to say that his adult son had taken the car without his knowledge.

Theft

7 p.m., June 29

A caller reported that his bag was stolen from a car parked in the lot at El Granada Elementary School. The bag contained a Sony Walkman, CDs, a driver's license and $2.

HALF MOON BAY

Battery

2 p.m., July 3, Lewis Foster Drive

Two males were fighting but the victim declined to press the issue with police. The report noted the fight occurred at Half Moon Bay High School. It wasn't clear whether the subjects were juveniles.

11:35 p.m., July 4, Roosevelt Boulevard

Two girls were fighting over a boyfriend. Both declined to prosecute.

Burglary

9:26 p.m., July 7, Granelli Avenue

An officer dispatched to report of a theft when a juvenile snuck into a house and took a Bic lighter without permission. The victim did not wish to seek prosecution and the 11-year-old was admonished regarding his behavior.

Drugs

1:22 p.m., July 2, Lewis Foster Drive

A student with marijuana was questioned by police. He was charged with possession on school grounds and released to a parent.

8:33 p.m., July 4, Miramontes Point Road

Police arrested a 32-year-old man after hotel employees called to say he was swinging a baton in the lobby. A search revealed suspected methamphetamines in the man's car. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence of drugs and was transported to county jail.

Illegal fireworks

10 a.m., July 3, Frenchmans Creek Road

Someone told police that fireworks in the neighborhood of Venice Beach had spooked her horse and caused the animal to collide with a fence.

Neighbor dispute

9:45 p.m., June 27, Seabreeze Drive

Police got involved after a man said that his neighbor challenged him to fight. The dispute began when the caller complained to the neighbor that the man's dog had urinated in his yard. The neighbor disputed that claim. No charges were filed.

Theft

11 a.m., June 29, Seascape

Police took a report of the theft of three pieces of lumber from a resident's carport. The wood was valued at $30.

Vandalism

10:55 p.m., July 4, Kelly Avenue

A car owner told police someone had "keyed" his car.

LA HONDA

Burglary

11 a.m., June 29

Someone broke into the locked storage freezer of a local restaurant and made off with $1,100 worth of food. The victim gave the name of a possible suspect to deputies.

MOSS BEACH

Drunk in public

2:27 a.m., June 28

Deputies saw a car parked by the side of the road and stopped to investigate. They noticed alcoholic beverages in the car and a passenger laying down in the back seat. When they asked if he was OK, the passenger sat up and vomited. Paramedics were called to care for the juvenile passenger, who was transported to a local hospital.

9:18 p.m., June 29, Highway 1

An 18-year-old South San Francisco man was found in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana in the Pomponio State Beach parking lot. He was cited and released on his promise to appear in court.
