ILLNESS HITS NERENBERG

An illness stopped Devin Nerenberg in his tracks at the Central Coast Section Singles Tennis Tournament.

He defeated Mike Conroy of Mitty, 6-1, 6-3. But down 3-0 against Parker Larsen of Aptos, a stomach problem forced Nerenberg to retire from the match.

GIRLS' SOFTBALL SEASON STARTS SATURDAY

The Half Moon Bay Girls Softball League begins its season Saturday at Smith Field.

Girls, ranging in age from 7 to 18, play in three different age level groups.

There are 208 players on 14 teams.

The Opening Ceremonies start at 8 a.m., with games beginning at 9 a.m.

The season ends in July.

ROLLER HOCKEY SEASON BEGINS SUNDAY

The 15th North Coast Roller Hockey season begins Sunday.

Close to 100 children, ranging in age from 5 to 18, play in three age-group divisions. The 5- to 8-year-olds play in the Squirt Division, with the 9- to 11-year-olds in the Pee Wee Division and 12- to 18-year-olds in the Bantam Division.

Games will be played at the Half Moon Bay Airport. League organizers expect that this could be the last year there.

Fund-raising for the new rink will continue through the season. San Jose Sharks' mascot SJ Sharkey is expected to make an appearance on June 10.

JANKOWSKI WINS TUMBLING TITLE

Kara Jankowski of the Half Moon Bay Gymnastics Club claimed the tumbling title at the Region 2 Championships, held in Bakersfield, May 19.

She claimed the Level 6 title in the 15-and-older division.

She also finished third in the Level 9 Trampoline Championships. It was the first time she had competed at that level.

She participated in a meet with athletes from California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii.

CUNHA WINS BOYS' SOCCER TITLE

The Cunha Intermediate School boys' soccer team claimed the Art David Athletic League title with a 4-1 win over Bayside Thursday.

The Cubs advanced to the finals with an 8-1 win over Central in the semifinals two days earlier.

Miguel Vasquez and Miguel Carrillo scored twice in that match. Also scoring were Sergio Orello, Omar Guevara, Sergio Arollo and Alex Preciado.

Cunha's girls' lost their title match to Bowditch, 3-0. The Cubs advanced with a 1-0 win over Borel. Julia Post scored the game's lone goal on a free kick from 20 yards with less than a minute left in the match.

OLP WINS SEVENTH-GRADE GIRLS' HOOPS TITLE

The Our of the Lady Pillar seventh-grade girls' basketball team claimed the Catholic Youth Organization title, going 9-0.

OLP outscored their opponents, 214-89, averaging out to a 24-10 margin per game.

The team consisted of Chelsey Nelson, Alyssa Giannini, Kim Garcia, Kianna Miller, Christy St. Charles, Jessica Lehane, Jovana Nuevo, Jarred Gibbs, Zoey Tempesta and Jenna Cowen.

LITTLE LEAGUE RESULTS TO RUN NEXT WEEK

Due to space considerations and early deadlines, results from the Half Moon Bay Little League could not run this week.

They will be back next week.
