Leah Garcia earned the Most Outstanding Pitching Award. She won three games. In 16 innings of work, she allowed an unearned run, eight hits, struck out 12 and didn't walk a batter.
The only downside to the day may have been the defense, as the Cougars committed seven errors in the three games. Patridge attributed most of the errors to first-game jitters.
Pacific Grove took a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third. The Cougars quickly tied the score on a Breakers' error.
Half Moon Bay took the lead for good in the fourth. Regina Sena singled in Holeton. Meagan Marshall doubled to score Christina Myles and Sena.
Akemi Hamada recorded an unassisted double play.
Holeton and Myles scored in the win over San Lorenzo Valley.
Half Moon Bay participates in pool play of the Live Oak Annie Lynch Memorial Circle of Champions Tournament in Salinas this weekend. The Cougars play Harbor at 7 p.m., Friday. Half Moon Bay closes out pool play Saturday with a game against Live Oak at 2 p.m., followed by a game with Salinas at 4 p.m.
