Neighbor raises stink over pesticides

At 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 6, Half Moon Bay Police officers arrived at Sailfish Court to investigate a call involving pesticides. The caller said her neighbor had recently sprayed her home, causing the caller to feel sick from the fumes. Still stricken, the woman claimed the pesticides were not meant for bugs, but rather for her own discomfort.

Dispute

7:18 a.m., Feb. 7, Magnolia Street

A man had been allowed to stay at a friend's residence for several days but the two got into a dispute. Officers were called, and the guest was asked to leave.

9:16 a.m., Feb. 8, Main Street

Two men with an ongoing dispute passed one another on the street. One man claims to have been taunted and the other says he was threatened with a stick. The case was sent to the San Mateo County district attorney for review.

Threats

8:28 a.m., Feb. 8

A resident claimed he had received four phone calls from a former handyman now threatening to cut his dog into pieces and eat them in front of the owner.

HALF MOON BAY

Dancing

6:42 p.m., Feb. 2, Highway 1

A report was taken of a suspicious person dancing and yelling. When officers arrived, the suspect became hostile and fled the area in what police termed "an excited manner." The officers gave chase but the dancer got away.

DUI

6:15 p.m., Feb. 7, Main Street

An officer witnessed a collision in which one of the drivers appeared to be intoxicated. After the driver failed sobriety tests, he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence with no license or proof of insurance.

Fraud

12 p.m., Feb. 7, St. John Avenue

A man told officers that his wife received an e-mail at her work confirming a jewelry purchase. The couple claims that they never purchased any jewelry. The police advised them to check for fraudulent credit activity.

4:37 p.m., Feb. 9, Arnold Way

Police were called after a citizen received a letter saying she had won a contest and would need to send a $4,960 check to collect the money. The victim knew the letter was a scam. The report will be forwarded to the FBI and Secret Service for investigation.

Feb. 10, Antoinette Lane

A caller posing as a Medicare representative told a woman that her benefits would expire without additional information. Actual Medicare officials informed the police that no such calls are made.

Harassment

2:30 p.m., Feb. 11, Garnellia Avenue

Police were called after a homeowner received a number of prank phone calls. The caller was found by officers and scolded for his behavior.

Intoxication

2:58 p.m., Feb. 6, Highway 1

An officer found an intoxicated man unable to care for himself. The man was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the county jail.

11 p.m., Feb. 6, Highway 1

An intoxicated man was found urinating on a wall at Strawflower Village. He was arrested for public intoxication and transported to First Chance.

Theft

5:37 p.m., Feb. 6, Alsace Lorraine Avenue

A 4-month-old puppy was reportedly stolen from a home's backyard.

Trespassing

12:15 a.m., Feb. 6, San Mateo Road

Officers contacted two subjects trespassing at a vacant residence. The pair removed their own personal belongings from the property and were released from the scene. The trespassers were instructed to stay off of the property or they would be arrested.

3:47 p.m., Feb. 6, Highway 1

A man had wandered onto land he had previously been told not to enter. The man left the scene before officers arrived.

10:55 p.m., Feb. 11, San Mateo Road

A trespasser living in a vacant residence was arrested for unlawful entry and possession of marijuana.

Vandalism

10 a.m., Feb. 7, Filbert Street

A garden hose, valued at about $20, was found cut.

8:00 a.m., Feb. 9, Magnolia Street

Unknown suspects broke into a vehicle through a window and tampered with the steering column.

10 a.m., Feb. 11, Filbert Street

A car's tires were slashed during the night.

MOSS BEACH

Break-in

11 a.m., Feb. 7

Burglars broke into a car by smashing a side window. They took a silver camera and a green case, together valued at $250.

DUI

11:42 p.m., Feb. 8

A man was arrested after failing sobriety tests and transported to the county jail.

Identity theft

5 p.m., Feb. 8

Unknown suspects purchased a plasma TV at an Emeryville store using a credit card number stolen from a local citizen.

Vandalism

5 p.m., Feb. 7

The previous night, unknown suspects shattered the right front passenger window of a parked car. No property was removed and no other damage could be found.
