Karie Thomson, a Woodside resident, has been named the new chair of the Peninsula Open Space Trust board of directors.

A long-time philanthropist and supporter of environmental causes, she has served on the board of the Illinois-based Kinship Foundation and the Portland nonprofit Ecotrust.

Closer to home, Thomson has served as chair of POST's "Saving the endangered Coast" campaign, which raised more than $200 million for the protection of the San Mateo County coast.

"As POST enters its 30th year as a land trust, the threats to open space on the San Francisco Peninsula are greater than ever. I can't think of a better person to help meet these challenges head on than Karie Thomson," said POST President Audrey Rust in a press release.

Thomson, who has served on the board since 1996, succeeds Susan Ford Dorsey as chair.
