Fight erupts on Main Street

At 9:50 p.m. on Dec. 16, Half Moon Bay Police officers on patrol saw a large group preparing for a fight. Police approached the group and found a man swinging a bat and striking another man on the ground. The person on the ground had been stabbed. The victim was transported to Stanford Hospital for treatment of wounds to his hip and shoulder blade. Julio Cesar Avila-Garcia, a 22-year-old from Salinas, was transported to the San Mateo County jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and participation in a criminal street gang. The stabbing suspect fled the scene and the case remains under investigation.

EL GRANADA

6:50 p.m., Dec. 9

After pulling over a car for code violations, San Mateo County sheriff's deputies began to smell marijuana. They searched the vehicle and found 26 hypodermic needles and six metal spoons. The spoons contained brown residue that, following testing, returned a positive result for heroin. The 20-year-old man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of hypodermic needles.

11:19 p.m., Dec. 9

Deputies approached a young man in possession of alcohol. Further investigation revealed 32 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and a 9 mm handgun. Tevita Feongoi Latu, age 19, was arrested for felony violations of possession of a loaded handgun and possession of marijuana for sales. Latu did not have a medical marijuana card.

Hit-and-run

1:30 a.m., Dec. 17

Deputies saw a reckless driver drive a truck through an intersection, run a red light and then collide with a parked vehicle. The driver continued for about a half mile, parked and ran from deputies. He was found, keys in hand, trying to enter his residence. Levi Noah Derhammer was arrested for hit-and-run, resisting arrest, DUI and reckless driving.

Theft

12:30 p.m., Dec. 9

An unknown suspect stole a satellite receiver from a car parked in a driveway.

3:33 p.m, Dec. 10

Unknown suspects damaged a white metal Christmas tree, taking two copper-colored metal reindeer with lights along with a snowman. The price of the stolen items was about $250.

Vandalism

10:58 a.m., Dec. 12

An unknown suspect smashed the front windshield of a car parked in a driveway.

Warrants

12:06 a.m., Dec. 16

After stopping a vehicle, police discovered one of its passengers had an outstanding misdemeanor bench warrant. He was arrested and taken to the county jail.

HALF MOON BAY

Drugs

10:15 a.m., Dec. 15, Spindrift Way

A suspicious letter arrived at a Half Moon Bay woman's house advising her of the "benefits of methamphetamine." Police officers advised the woman to get a restraining order against the sender.

DUI

1:20 a.m., Dec. 12, Main Street

San Mateo County sheriff's deputies performed a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to be involved in a hit-and-run collision. Half Moon Bay Police officers found the driver intoxicated and driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance. He was arrested and transported to First Chance.

Intoxication

1:22 a.m., Dec. 14, San Mateo Road

An officer found a driver in a parking lot with his headlights on and his vehicle running. The man was asleep. After the driver failed sobriety tests, he was arrested and transported to First Chance.

11:56 a.m., Dec. 17, Venice Boulevard

Officers came across a drunk pedestrian who said she was walking home and would not be driving that evening. Police soon found out that she had returned to her vehicle anyway. She was stopped and failed sobriety tests. The woman was transported to the county jail.

2:00 p.m., Dec. 15, Strawflower Village

A juvenile girl was found at Strawflower Villiage in possession of alcohol. She was arrested and released to a parent.

Parental assist

9:25 p.m., Dec. 14, Cypress Avenue

An officer was contacted by the parent of a young girl who had been sneaking out at night to meet a male friend. The father asked that the police contact the suitor's parents regarding their son's behavior.

Theft

12:25 p.m., Dec. 14, Highway 1

Officers took a report of shoplifting from a Half Moon Bay store. An employee saw two teenagers steal a $20 item.

4:45 p.m., Dec. 14, Main Street

Various tools were stolen from a car, valued at approximately $240.

Unlicensed driver

3:34 p.m., Dec. 14, Main Street

An officer discovered an unlicensed driver during a traffic stop. The driver was cited and released on promise to appear in court.

Wanted man

12:13 a.m., Dec. 16, Mill Street

Officers arrested a man with an outstanding $10,000 warrent. He was taken and booked into the San Mateo County jail.

MOSS BEACH

Drugs

8:09 p.m., Dec. 12

During a traffic stop, deputies discovered that the driver was unlicensed and had an outstanding warrant. David Gutierrez, age 25, was arrested and deputies searched his vehicle. Suspected methamphetamine was located in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Gutierrez was booked into the San Mateo County jail and his vehicle was towed.

Intoxication

3:16 a.m., Dec. 17

Deputies found an intoxicated man urinating on a tree. He was arrested and taken to the county jail.

Theft

3:25 p.m., Dec. 12, Codo Street

A juvenile allegedly stole a box containing a cell phone from a neighbor's porch. Deputies arrested the thief and contacted his mother.

PESCADERO

Drugs

7:57 p.m., Dec .16

When deputies searched an illegally parked vehicle, they found a glass methamphetamine pipe, two grams of methamphetamine and eight grams of marijuana. Jeffrey Young was booked into the county jail on narcotics charges.

PRINCETON

Vandalism

12:29 a.m., Dec. 18

Deputies responded to an alarm and found that vandals had gained entry into Barbara's Fish Trap after smashing a window. It's unknown if anything was taken.
