| Cheerleaders ready for Nationals By Mark Foyer--[ markf@hmbreview.com ] Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 4:00 PM PST There has been very little time for the Coastside Pop Warner Junior Midget Cheerleaders to celebrate winning the Pacific Northwest Regional Championship. If they aren't redoing the routine over and over in practice, then they are raising money. The cheerleaders won the title on Nov. 24 in Santa Clara. They were scheduled to leave Tuesday for the nationals, taking place Thursday at the Disney World Sprits Center in Orlando, Fla. The cheerleaders must also maintain their grades at school. Time devoted to thinking or relaxing is scarce. Maybe on the plane ride, the 12-girl squad can think about what it means to participate there. It's the third straight year the squad has qualified for the nationals. "I remember last year when we were taking our photos that it hit me that we were really there," said 13-year-old Katie Brinton. The squad is filled with some rookies as well. "All I know is that it's going to be fun," said Camille McGhee. When the team won in Santa Clara, everyone was excited. "I was excited for everyone," Brinton said. A couple of days after the win, the work resumed. Every move is reviewed under the watchful eye of assistant coach Martha Vega. Nothing was left to chance. No one complains. "It's all fun," Brinton said. "We hope to return with a trophy." |
