One tree will be sponsored by local residents Patrick and Sandie Ryan and another by Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Bureau President and CEO Charise McHugh, local businesswoman Tara Earley and medical center development committee member Susie Farber.
Hosted by the nonprofit Coastside Family Medical Center and the Boys and the Girls Club of the Coastside, the event debuts this year with a wine reception, live entertainment, a live auction of eight decorated trees with gifts and a raffle of holiday wreaths.
Similar events have been staged through the chamber.
"I always wanted to do this event on the coast, period, on this scale," McHugh said.
With help from McHugh, the Coastside Family Medical Center development committee "decided it would be a great idea to extend it and create an event to benefit the clinic and the Boys and Girls (Club,)" said center Development Director Cecilia Murillo.
At its heart are eight artificial lighted trees standing up to seven feet high, decorated according to themes, said Murillo.
One is "Holiday by the Sea," with seashell ornaments and decorations hand-painted by local artisans. Around its base are gifts including a little lighthouse, a treasure chest and certificates for a stay at the Beach House and a sightseeing flight, said Murillo.
Another tree is "Wine Country Harvest" with fall foliage, gold ribbons, grapes and gifts of a wine-tasting tour and limo ride through the wine country. And there's "Giddy-Up Santa," with Western and barbecue gift baskets and hats.
The trees will be sold in a live auction called by local auctioneer Steve Bowerman. The gifts were donated by local businesses. Proceeds go to medical center general operating expenses and programs like its satellite clinic in Pescadero or its "Just for Teens" program.
The Boys and Girls Club will raffle holiday wreaths, also created in themes. A "Fantasea" wreath goes with the "Holiday by the Sea" tree and a "Giddy-Up" wreath goes with the Western tree. Others include a "Cats and Dogs" wreath.
Proceeds from the wreaths go to Boys and Girls Club general expenses.
"It's a nice marriage," said McHugh of the coupling of the clinic and the local youth club, which merged their holiday benefit events for Ritzy Trees this year.
