If you're in a picnic mood, head to the American Legion Post 474, at 470 Capistrano Road, Princeton. There, enjoy patriotic and light rock music and barbecue, while reclining on a lawn chair or blanket.
The Legion's Memorial Day begins with a 1 p.m. ceremony. At 1:30, entertainment starts with the "Half Moon Bay Sit-Down Marching Band" you know from the Fourth of July parade. The 25- to 50-piece band will play its usual mix of John Philip Sousa marches, jazz tunes and patriotic marches.

Its namesake, Frank Ellis, started it with the rocking and comedic Mad Brothers. He's joined by bassist Randy McGowan, drummer David Platshon and guitarist/vocalist Norman Collins.
There's barbecue available. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.
For more information, call Legion Commander Russell Bissonnette at (650) 400-7040.
But if you're in a jazzy mood, you can tap toes in time with the surf when the second annual Smooth Jazz KKSF 103.7 Concerts on the Coast kicks off at the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay.
It begins at 4 p.m. Monday with "Guitars, Sax and More." They include renowned jazz artists Peter White and Jeff Golub on guitar, sax men Richard Elliot and Gerald Albright, plus a rhythm section.
Albright established himself on the studio and touring circuit, recording with Nina Simone, Barry White, Nancy Wilson, the Temptations, Randy Newman, Teena Marie and more. He scored a personal best with his alto sax work on Quincy Jones' "Septembro" album.
He says, "With every note I play, I really want to move people," and he'll do just that Monday at the Ritz.
Tickets are $85, and can be purchased by calling (877) 468-5299.
