What you think is food for thought

We aren’t what we think we are. We are what we feel.

That’s the viewpoint of Half Moon Bay philosopher and author Christian de Quincey in his new book, “Radical Knowing: Understanding Consciousness Through Relationship,” the second in his “Radical Consciousness” trilogy. He will discuss his ideas at a book-signing at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Moon News.

His trilogy explores three questions — Where did we come from? Who are we? Where are we going? — from de Quincey’s viewpoint as a former journalist, public relations and marketing professional and now professor of philosophy and consciousness studies at John F. Kennedy University. With partner Reba Vanderpool, he is also co-founder of The Visionary Edge transformative media venture on the Coastside.

The first book, “Radical Nature,” explores the nature of reality. The second, “Radical Knowing” (Park Street Press,) explores the idea that “we grow out of a pre-existing web of relationships.”

Intellect doesn’t equate with selfhood, he said. “Thinking does not tell us who we are. To get to who we are, pay attention to what you’re feeling in the moment.”

The third, “Radical Science,” due in a couple of years, ponders where humanity is going as a species.

His work with The Visionary Edge focuses on using films to promote awakening of consciousness and positive social change. He will discuss his theories further in the “Radical Knowing: Cultivating Our Four Gifts” workshop on May 13.
